You're looking for a new house and you have the choice of a pool or not. Do you want the pool (and the maintenance)?

No.

Nope! A hot tub but not a pool.
Unless you really, really, really like swimming.
Yes , it's very easy but the chlorine is getting expensive.
Nope. Not unless you've got younger children who will use it frequently or plan to use it frequently yourself. Otherwise it's just a big waste of time and money.
It's a lot of effort keeping the pool in good condition, and the pumps also draw a fair bit of electricity.
Let me qualify my "no".
It will depend on your location and the climate.
Does the pool add value to the property as a feature? i.e. is it unusual or custom built, typically a rock pool or a pool with a wet bar?
Do you have kids who will use the pool? If it is just you and your SO and you hardly use it, then it is a needless expense and a serious time waster.

Definitely not! Great for young kids, but those are (very) far off![]()
Sit down and ask yourself: will i make use of the pool or not? Then make your decision. No point having a pool you won't make use of.

I'd either go for a small pool or just a jacuzzi.
As a first time home buyer who has never had a pool at my previous and current abode, love swimming, have small kids and love to entertain.
I guess that would place me in the minority in this thread who would say YES.
Definately. They are easy to maintain. But get a proper sized pool - one you can dive into - not one of those "standing room only" jobs.
