Yes, I'm sure I mentioned "backhaul being a problem" a few posts back and I think did qualify my posts by stating that it is only the HSPA radio interface that is really fast compared to Telkom's "fast" 384kbps.

I think I'm out of phase with everyone else or there's something in the air.

Won't you be migrated to 1Mbps when it kicks in?

Telkom highlighted that this promotion is subject to signing a 24 month contract, and is only available to new subscribers.

    Misleading title.

:O signing a 24 month contract with Telkom... Now there is something I want to protect my soul from.

I mean it's a best effort to provide... 384kbps... capped service right? Just saying. But if the price is right... Well... Sure go for it.

I dont get it , why would they offer a 24month 384k contract if the basic broadband will be increased to 1024k from Oct ? I am under the impression that the lowest speed come October will be 1024 ?

I'm wondering if the 5 GB you get with this is locked to your line or if anyone with an ADSL line can use this. I moved recently and my dad has the uncapped MWEB account running at the ADSL at home (he started using the internet frequently). His usage is obviously not as much as mine, and 5 GB would fit him perfectly. This way I can get away from not getting / paying for an extra account for me and take my uncapped MWEB account back.

Anyone signed a contract with this have any experience?

    It's a trap!

Telkom data isn't at all as bad as what people make it out to be :S
We know but Telkom, the company, is.

Considering that Telkom is the ONLY viable ADSL option in this country, signing a 24 months contract is not really such a bad deal. Neotel bit the dust long time ago so there is no other place to go. Further, it serves no point to compare Telkom with wireless services like 8ta's 3g. Fact of the matter is that you will never beat ADSL when it comes to speed, costs and reliability. I am greatful for Telkom for providing ADSL services. Surely Telkom has its problems but they have improved a lot over the past year and you have to give them that.

Can we keep this on-topic please guys?

"Telkom is the devil" type threads should stay under those topics.

Those of us with real questions like:

384kb for the 24 months, or are you upgraded to 1mbps for the price you're signing up for right now when time comes?
5GB account, locked to the specific ADSL line, or interchangable?
What type of "wifi ADSL modem" do you get with this "special"

For now this is almost R140 CHEAPER than the cheapest competitor/bundle. Granted I've compared uncapped with the 5GB of data you get with this, but since I'm going to be running 2 lines, saving R140 odd and getting 1mbps later this year as a "free upgrade" and while already paying for an uncapped line and paying the same price for the entire rental/bundle on a 24 month contract would be great UNLESS you're locked into 384kb and/or have to pay MORE for the 1mbps upgrade.

Granted line rental would most probably go up, but still...

There was an ad in yesterday's Sunday Times with this promotion. It said users will be upgraded to the 1Mbps speed when it becomes available in October.

Cool, now just to find out if the price stays the same or goes "up to" 1mbps

never signing a CONtract with teldrol again.

Good luck to whoever has time and energy to battle for overbilling and numerous discrepancies with their incompitent accounts department.
