Default Be careful what you ask for in a Vodashop

So I went to Vodashop in Rosebank to sort out a sim swap for my new phone (micro-sim). I also needed a data bundle and I read on the vodacom website that you could get a blackberry data sim. So I ask the lady there to help me do what I needed, namely swap my existing sim for a microsim and get a data sim for the blackberry. After paying R105 for a sim (this is madness but I needed it), the lady activates the sim and data bundle. When I ask her if this combo will do what I needed, she then becomes uncertain and tells me that my data sim won't use the blackberry BIS. She calls up the call centre who advises her that she's done something wrong and that it can't be done (data sim using blackberry BIS). So I tell her okay, this is a mess up, cancel everything. She does so (5 minutes after activating) and I leave the shop. She calls me later telling me that I will be billed for the 250mb bundle and data sim! Of which I used no data. Luckily I still have the SIM (which she wanted to keep as well). Moral of the story, don't ask for anything complicated and make sure that they activate after telling you all information!

I am also uncertain what you wanted after reading your post. This is a scenario I have had twice with a client...on contract.

    1. Client took Android phone on upgrade. He used to have Blackberry phone
    2. Gives micro sim and activate data bundle for the Android phone to use.
    3. Client wants to still use BBM and Email on the Blackberry....activate Blackberry Data Sim (R9.00 per month) and leave BIS active on the line

So...the Android phone will use the data bunde...the Blackberry with its Blackberry data sim will use BIS. Blackberry Data Sims and multi Data Sims are not available on Prepaid and Top Up.

I had a similar story a while back: have an iPhone and iPhone contract. Wanted to activate a data SIM with the BlackBerry BIS service on it so that I can use it overseas. Ended up discovering - after a while on the phone, in the store and on this forum - that you can't activate a BB data SIM on an iPhone contract. The BIS will only work on the main SIM, not the data SIM (while the normal bundled data is shared all-round).

Wasn't too major in the end - just used my normal SIM in the BB while I was overseas, and swapped it back afterwards.

Sorry about the ambiguity of the first post, I was typing this on my BB
Ockie, that is EXACTLY what I needed done today. I went to the Vodacom 4U store in Rosebank today and what I asked the lady to do is a SIM swap to a Micro-SIM for my android phone. I also need my BB for email and BBM and I asked her to get me a data sim for this purpose and to load a 250MB bundle for my android to use.

What she did however, was activate the 250MB bundle first, before she activated the data sim and charged me R105 for the Micro-SIM (I thought this would be covered under Quick-SIM). After she did this, I asked her where my data SIM was and she didn't understand what I meant. She then proceeded to make three calls to try and see if what I was asking is possible (i did some research on this and I knew it was possible) but she told me that what I was asking could not be done. Now by this time she had already activated the data bundle and the data sim, so I ask her to cancel everything, not thinking that I would be charged. Alas, she called me later to say that I would be charged.

I went to the other Vodashop in Rosebank and asked the lady there to do the exact thing that Ockie has said. She said it CANNOT be done. I further went to Vodacom 4U and asked the consultant there about what I wanted to do. He also said that it CANNOT be done. Furthermore, the micro-sim somehow has been activated and cancelled.

I am beyond confused. 3 shops tell me I cannot do what you have done Ockie. I am on contract.

    Hello.

Please PM me your cell number. I want to have a look on what contract you are and why they are saying it is not possible on your contract. I do not want to comment further before having a look for myself on the systm.

Going to bed now...so will reply tomorrow.

I had a good experience in a Vodashop today. Was very surprised. This the one at Eastgate.

I picked up an S3 this AM and needed a micro SIM. Off I go to Vodashop. Also got the free SIM swap.

While there I figured I should get the second data SIM for my SGT10.1. Been meaning to do it for a long time but previous experiences in these shops left me putting it off until necessary. So was there now so decided to do it.
Lady tells me I must get it done downstairs at customer care. But of a mission but no worry.
While setting up the SIM swap she informs me she can do the data SIM too. I didn't question it, was just happy I did not have to go downstairs.

Then I decided to get a case for my S3. I have never ever ever ever managed to get cases at Vodashops for previous devices so was really just putting it out there when I asked her if they had any.
Damn.... they had about 6 different types. I was blown away. Ended up getting 2.

My SGT10.1 is currently in a pouch, so with the luck I hit on cases for the S3 I pop the question. She pulls out 2 options Again... blown away.

I walked out of there pleasantly surprised and very chuffed. I know which Vodashop to use in future.

Very glad to hear it Mike. We run the Eastgate store. If you can perhaps PM me the consultants name and your name I would like to pass compliments on to the person that helped you. It really does mean a lot to get good feedback from a client when you are a consultant.

    <--- My name

I cannot remember the consultants name. I never take notice of stuff like this.
She was a black lady, quite young, short, wavy hair and a little chubby. At first she was not very friendly but she warmed up when I turned on the charm

EDIT: Yesterday she had a white top on.

I value my life and will not be phoning the store asking for the chubby black lady :-)

Will pull a report for upgrades done on Sunday and see if I can trace it.

    Thank you.

lol... Ye. That could be a bit dodgy. haha.

I did not upgrade there. I purchased the S3 cash elsewhere and went to the Vodashop to do the SIM swap. I don't like getting phones on cash anymore cause I change too often. Prefer outright purchase and maybe sell of the old one.

I will PM you my cell number. You can look up the transaction for the SIM swap if that will help?

@ OP. Had a look on the line. The bundle + data sim was activated succesfully...then removed again. They did it right as far as I can see but then the services was removed again.

Tried to phone you to discuss but goes straight into voicemail.

    Ockie.
Sorry about that, I am in meetings for today and the boardroom has 9 inch think walls, phone signal does not exist!
Ah that explains why the Micro-SIM registered itself as being used then when I went to the third shop. See, the lady activated the data bundle but what I suspect she did was made the Micro-SIM the data sim, because when I asked her where my data sim was, she told me that the Micro-SIM had everything loaded on it. When i proceeded to tell her that I want my blackberry phone to run on the data sim, she said that was not possible. In fact, all three consultants told me that I could not do the setup that has been listed. They advised me to go prepaid for the BB as they would terminate BIS on my main line, as BIS and the data bundle can't exist on the main number (this is the exact words of the lady at Rosebank).

Ockie, could you advise? I'm hesitant to go to another Vodashop to request this because three shops have told me otherwise already. It could be a case of they have never heard of it or major misunderstandings, but I kinda need this to be done, my android is sitting at home. Mind you, I have the best battery life ever, it's now 7 days of battery life

Jees....this sounds very complicated. It is in fact very simple.

    1. Get your Android phone
    2. If the new phone needs a micro sim...do sim swop for the micro sim...have data bundle activated on the line of your choice.
    3. Ask for Blackberry Data Sim that then gets put into the Blackberry. THEY ARE TO LEAVE BIS ON THE LINE!

The Android phone will be used for voice and will pull its data from the data bundle. The blackberry can only be used for Blackberry services like BBM and email. Voice does not work on the Blackberry Data Sim. Both phones may be used at the same time.
