Getting a Landline

No, Telkom is the only company.

There is Neotel, but they are wireless and pathetic. :sick:
 
It depends if you're looking a landline service that is POTS and runs on a copper cable or if you want a landline with a geographic number and low call costs in and out. The first one is only available from Telkom. For the second one you have the choice of a few hundred VoIP providers and some of them will allow you to choose your phone number out of their range if you ask nicely. ;)
 
I want a landline number to set up at home and forward it to my cellphone, so whenever someone calls my so called company I can get the call on my cell where ever I am. If I'm not mistaken voip needs ADSL which i dont have then my best choice would be a telkom landline, or I think it is!

You are mistaken. :) You only need ADSL if you want to receive the call on a SIP phone at your house. Many of the VoIP providers will call forward direct to your cellphone and you can also now get SIP phone apps for many smart phones. The SIP app works well if you're on 3G or wifi and then you can switch to a normal call forward for the rest of the time.
 
Neighbour uses Vox and reckons it is ok. He tried Neotel for a year and found it unreliable, with no support whatsoever (no fault reporting after hours)
