Default Eric Whitacre - beautiful inspiration for any day of the week...

This is such a beautiful and somehow inspirational series of human experiences that we can all either relate to, or appreciate. What began as a simple experiment by a single composer to combine a few vocal tracks recorded over Youtube into a single, short choir song, has turned into a bit of a phenomenon around the world with thousands of vocal and technical contributions coming from all corners of the planet, and everywhere in-between. Not only are the results beautiful in themselves, but the story behind it and the relationships it has inspired is an acute reminder of how our divisions as human beings are only ever a few inspirational choruses thick. The music echoes the beauty of each of the projects and its entire escalation and crescendo is perfectly personified by the magnificent videos. I find this sort of ethereal chemistry of human experiences to be quite a stark reminder of our own fragility as cocooned beings; serving as an inspiration to reach out to others, if you will.

I suppose I've had the luxury of being able to dedicate an hour to entirely this, with no interruptions. You might not have that sort of time, with it being a Monday, but if you can afford it...actually scrap that - you can afford it. Take 20 minutes out of your working day to share in something far better; far more creative; far more connecting; and far more inspiration than a Susan Boyle or Paul Potts clip. I've waxed lyrical about my own feelings about it, so post yours.

I hope it helps inspire you to a better Monday...

Here is the TED talk with Eric Whitacre, introducing the project in such an eloquent manner that seems unsurprisingly natural to him. This is a great starting point instead of jumping into the songs.

This is the 2000-people strong rendition of Sleep.

And here is his, and 3000-odd people's rendition of Water Night.

I kept reading just to see when you'd drop in a sarcasm bomb - needless to say I'm sorely disappointed.

    Will check out later.

Haha. Sorry to disappoint. I was very sincere when I wrote that all. I touched on sarcasm to a small degree with the Susan Boyle and Paul Potts references, but I do actually quite enjoy this sort of project. The music is soothing and meditative while the story can be appreciated by anyone. And it sure trumps Gregorian Chant as choir music...

Writing, I mean and using the F1 of internet for your gain?

EDIT: Ah, I see you posted after I had edited my post unknowing what you posted ...I knew you are some kind of wordsmith.

I'm not going to get into exactly why I'm here in Singapore, but I don't do this sort of thing professionally - would be incredible if I did. I tell you what this inspired me to do, was continue writing a novel I started a few years ago. I've been writing non-stop since mid-day and have completed 75 pages...

That's very impressive how do you find imagination to write so much?

I don't think there is an answer to this question. Or at least not one you'd be happy with. One doesn't find imagination - one is inspired to be imaginative through a series of life experiences. Without experiencing life and immersing yourself in it, you remain static in both your outlook and sense of imagination.

In other words, I write about what I know. As you can imagine, my writing style is far removed from the J.K. Rowlings of this world...

    Bump!

.. to the top of the page.

Rescued this thread from being relegated to the second page after only a couple of hours of the first post.

So many of my threads have been shifted rapidly into the obscurity of the second page, I cannot remember.

I'm not going to allow one of DJ..'s posts to suffer the same fate.

Haha, thanks Picard. Seems nobody is interested in this. Yet have one fat, ugly chick from the sticks in Britain sing some mediocre opera and the internet falls apart with the traffic increases from every housewife and secretary simultaneously abusing the forward button...
