Telkom 10Mbps ADSL service nears milestone

Telkom’s 10Mbps ADSL connections is gaining momentum with close to 200,000 connections; network upgrade progressing well

How many of those 200,000 actually get 10 mbps? And how many of them are on exchanges that are not overloaded?

And when are the rest of us going to be upgraded?

If I was Telkom, I would be more embarrassed over this article rather than proud of anything. Their progress sucks.

    ...and this guy....

Still reminds me of this guy....

You should be ashamed, not celebrating...200 000 out of 40 odd million people.

I would estimate maybe only 10% of those 200 000 actually have full 10mbps. In fact I don't even know a single person who does..

200 000 out of the whole country, which is probably 50 million is like a crack in the pavement.

At least Telkom is upgrading their network. But, their IPC is still expensive. How much is it again per Mbps?

There are only around 800 000 ADSL subscribers in SA. So that's a quarter.

The cost and difficulty of deploying metro ethernet everywhere is undoubtedly a major factor and certainly understandable (e.g. Australia), but the cost of Telkom's IPC remains an unforgivable sin.
