    I got a feeling this is going to be the unfunniest joke you've heard all year. Except, perhaps, for other VC so-called "smart" plans.

    Rather reduce trhe SMSs to 50 and up data to 200MB
    Maybe we should start a thread of how many sms's people send. With Whatsapp, Skype, etc, there are not a lot of people sms'ing anymore

    SMSs cost them a couple of cents, so they can bundle them in to a package to make it appear better value. However, I do agree with your sentiment. I also think a data package of 300MB is a minimum requirement with a smartphone.

    Just out of interestL

    Costing R229 per month, Smart Standard 229 includes the following:
    MOTOROLA RAZR FREE @ R229.00 PER MONTH
    150MB data;
    150 SMSes;
    75 anytime minutes;
    20 More weekend minutes (only to other Vodacom subscribers);
    20 promotional anytime minutes to other Vodacom users if contract is taken out before 6 September 2012.

    CELL C STRAIGHT UP 50 @ R383 per month x 24 months for the RAZR and you get less minutes, less megs.
    Now why you loer en kyk gelyk?
    Is ek miskien van goud gemake?

    I do believe that Vodacom are intentionally doing the opposite of Cell C, creating packages so complicated no one could possibly know what they've used and what they have left - seriously, off-peak minutes to Vodacom, then additional peak minutes but only to Vodacom and only for the next month? All this with a measly 150mb?
    I get it now - the 'smart' is supposed to be ironic - makes sense now.
    My nefarious schemes to achieve ultimate global domination are well under way. You can read more at my blog: http://oronte.blogspot.com

    Let's compare the S3 on Vodacom 229 vs Cell C Straightup 100.

    Vodacom 229:
    150 MB (OOB=R1/MB)
    150 sms
    75 anytime minutes (OOB=R1.99/min)
    Total: R399 x 24

    Cell C Straightup 100
    150 MB (OOB=15c/MB due to upsizing with an additional 50 MB)
    100 sms
    100 anytime minutes (OOB=99c/min)
    Total: R456.50 x 24

    So effectively R56.50 more on Cell C to get 25 more anytime minutes but OOB is much cheaper.
    No clear winner here I think.
