I don't understand this fibre thing.
DFA are currently laying fibre all over the place. Who is actually using DFA's infrastructure?
If I wanted to, how do I get connected? Who is responsible for this?

DFA provide infrastructure for the likes of Neotel for one. The cellular networks run off of it as well if I'm not mistaken. They don't deal with individuals.

Yeah they are not a service provider...

Still not sure why they don't do last mile with wireless and the rest fibre....surely that is much more cost efficient?
and won't affect your pings too much.

    You can keep your wireless.

If trees could scream would we be so cavalier about cutting them down. What if they screamed all the time for no reason?

I do not care when FTTH is comming.

What I want to know is how much will this cost us every month? If its more than ADSL then I'm not Interested.

Then you will remain disinterested for a few more years.

What do you think the cellular operators have been doing for the last few years?

LTE will work in the same way BUT it will be a vast improvement (if rolled out properly).

These guys trenched my road a few months ago, they said they were putting 2 pieces of infrastructure in - MTN backhaul and i3 Africa FTTH cables. http://www.techcentral.co.za/exclusi...a-homes/21723/

If you hunt around on Techcentral, there's a few articles about it, and they said it'll be "competitive" with ADSL. I guess that's a good start. I'm not looking for an earth shattering bargain, if I got the same from FTTH for the same cost as what I pay for ADSL I'd be happy - far lower latencies and a far more stable connection. FTTH has far better scalability than ADSL, so I would expect the prices to go down and speeds go up far quicker than market forces would make my ADSL speeds/prices.

Now I just wish they would finish my neighborhood - they're still trenching some of the more remote roads. Hurry up you buggers.

There is fibre cables also being trenched in my area too, I do not know which ISP's will be using the cables, I know DFA is installing them here.

Wish MyBroadband could get Info on ISP's on what their FTTH pricing would be

DFA cables are dark. They are not doing any traffic over it. They rent out the pairs of fibre to companies who are licensed according to the law, which will then use it. This means we will not see a FTTH offering from DFA.

Yes, which ISP's will be using their cables?
