Question How much should I sell a second hand Canon 350D for?

I would like to sell my Canon 350D. I am just not sure what to ask for it. It's largely unused (some of the cables are still sealed in their original packaging). It's a basic camera, charger, lens (that came with the camera), nice bag, etc. I doesn't look like there are any scratches or anything on the body or anything like that (wife is paranoid). I am not sure how many photo's I have taken with it but if it's 2000, then it's a lot. Any ideas? I would like to "upgrade" to a point and click camera because my photo skills are severely lacking and I don't have the time to learn to use it properly.

Keep it in place of the point and shoot you're aiming for. As an owner, and still a regular user of a 350d, I reckon around R500 is what I would offer you for a body plus kit lens. It is worth more than that, but there are many more modern cameras available out there.

That green square in the dial basically turns it into a P&S!

That's pretty much how we have been using it. The problem is that taking it anywhere is a mission. Huge bag, etc. A point and shoot can fit in my wife's handbag with a small cover.

All very true. I doubt you'll get much for the 350D unfortunately.

Have a look at your local gumtree and see what they're going for. I just had a look at the cape town one, and suprisingly (well to me) people are selling the kit for R2500, and about R1000+ for just the body, ie no lens. Don't know if they're actually getting sold at that price though :P

I've also got a 350D, and have thought about upgrading, but never expected to get much for my 350D.

My daughter wants to get into photography and wants to do a course at school but all the kids have DSLR cameras so I said she must hang on until I can "one day" afford a DSLR camera. I don't have one myself. Will a 350D work for her to start off with? I'm not a DSLR expert.

Got sorted this morning, thanks. Friend here offered me his Nikon D50 for R2000.

What exactly did you get with the body?
