For those that are new here I was being sarcastic. There are still VW/Toyota fans here that believe Hyundais and Kias fall apart after a year.

I think people get used to their cars and tend to overlook, or not even realise that they are getting tatty. Look inside a 2007/2008 Tuscon/Sportage and then compare it with a similarly aged Japanese car, and you will see a difference.
We are in a position where we see these cars and compare them on a daily basis, and as I said, any Korean with over 100k on the clock is not the prettiest sight inside, even if the exterior is in good shape.
This is not MY opinion, but the opinion of my very humble mechanic, who I might add is not a fan of any particular brand, but he also commented on the longevity of the Korean cars, he had one in his yard which is what sparked the conversation. He says they are great, but he is seeing a lot of component failures shortly after the motorplan is up. He had one there that was out of plan but very low KM's and the shocks and clutch needed doing. Anyway, as I said that is not my opinion, I quite like some of the Kia's and Hyundais. O and another thing we chatted about was the new Mercs, he says they also don't make them like they used to, he is also seeing a lot of out of plan Mercs with massive failures occurring. My mother in laws C200 died the other day, only 40K on the clock, entire steering mechanism failed.
Tha being said, I am considering the Sportage or Fortuner. Obviously with the Fortuner I am getting 4 seats and a steering wheel whilst the Sportage offers a **** load more. It will come down to the drive and how the car feels.
I believe Kia's new model offering is very good and value for money and also looks great.
Hyundais are still ugly as hell and anyone who owns one has no taste in cars and should feel bad for buying one.
To me it looks like OP wants to buy a VW but just wanted other ppl to support him on that choice. So OP has my support, buy that VW![]()
Sometimes I talk to myself if I feel like having an intelligent conversation.
Yeah that is my biggest issue. You get pocket change for it when you decide to sell it.
lol, I know with a VW or a Toyota I wouldn't go wrong. I have owned both brands and you get what you pay for. Yes they are expensive, but they are solid well made cars. Not to say the Koreans cars aren't, but they don't have the reputation of a VW or Toyota. Not yet anyway.
For me the thing I like about VW is the design, their cars age very very well. I mean look at the 2005 polo, the design is still so with the times that its being used for the vivo range. Take the Chev spark for example, the last model can get confused with a Hyundai and for me I want a car that I can own for 5 years and not worry about the next model making me hate my car and VW does that very well. That's something Both Mercs and BMW also fail at, it reflects on their resale value.

The VW Tiguan is pretty sweet, but it is insanely overpriced so if you must buy VW then Touran is probably a better deal. As said before both the VW and Toyota are high risk cars and if you want something with a little less risk and a little more style then perhaps consider the new Meriva : http://www.opel.co.za/vehicles/opel-...iva/index.html
They start from about R236k and are loaded with stuff you'll find as extras on other cars.

Well that does not automatically makes it crap. If you don't want to take my word for it then maybe check out the CAR Review, they actually give it a better score than the new B-Class : http://www.carmag.co.za/article/opel...smo-2012-08-06
It does have the neat party trick of suicide doors which makes it a lot easier getting stuff (and kids) into the back :
