WARNING: Samsung consider the buzzing of the 64" E8000 to be "normal"

As much as I don't agree with some of the OP's posts - no one can deny that he's gotten a raw deal ... 40k on a defective tv with no support - just wrong nor should he have to beg anyone.

I was put through similar frustrations. The buzzing differs from TV to TV - I've had three D550's all connected exactly the same and yet all had different levels buzzing. 1st was the worse and last I hardly hear - must be hearing loss lol

Point is u have a point dude ... I'll see if I can find the number I have for Samsung and then PM you - no point going thru AV as Samsung head office need to approve a credit note in order for AV to replace your unit. They really should fight for u but there hands are tied n in the name of profit will close their eyes n ears to your pain.

But expect a fight with Samsung - have the technicians come out again and be patient as difficult as that is. Mine took weeks to resolve and I got lucky as the repair agents damaged my TV - which placed Samsung in a catch 22.

I think the main point is that a lot of electronic products have that buzzing sound. It definitely is something to do with the power supply in the set.

I had two identical LG pc monitors that didn't buzz, the one packed up so I sent it in for repair under warranty, when I got it back it had a buzz (still has) . The service report said the internal power supply was changed.

This is quite worrying, I was about to buy the exact same TV

I'm also upgrading from a 50" Panasonic, and despite living in Gauteng at altitude, I've never experienced buzzing on this panel

I am in CT. The speakers, AV and PS3 were disconnected. Once. Then switching the E8000 on and off a number of times. No debate - the panel buzzes. On its own. You have no idea how annoyed I am with the idjits.

Of course it'll buzz. It's a plasma and buzzing is inherent in all plasma TVs according to the way they operate. The question is if the buzzing, from the TV alone, is audible from viewing distance. Because 99% of the time it's certainly not, and should only be noticeable from within +-1m with sound off or VERY low.

If it's not audible from viewing distance, you're being pedantic. If it is, they should swap it out and you're well within your rights to demand this.

But seriously, I think once you picked up the noise you can't pretend it's not there. Like a dead pixel on a monitor or the screen door effect on projectors - it'll irritate you if you can't consciously get it out of your mind.

Just went to Cats Digital, they have a 64e8000 on display, I went right up to it and listened as carefully as one can in a shopping mall, and try as I might, I could not hear any buzzing at all.

I was a bit disappointed with the picture quality (DStv on a high def Olympic channel), but no buzzing.

The picture definitely wasn't bad, but I just expected better.

I'm leaning more and more towards the 60" E550 and saving myself 20k

I wouldn't go by the DSTV HD PQ you see in stores. I've yet to see one where the PQ on any TV model comes close to what mine looks like at home.

I suspect its mainly due to the (HDMI) distribution systems used (and incorrect settings). For instance at the Dionwired down the road for me, the DSTV HD channels look like they're at 576p resolution.

Thanks man. Just waiting for second technicians to come out and give their farcical report that the buzzing is normal and then I will go the hello peter route - assuming that Samsung will refuse to replace the unit. Them picking up my unit is also dependent on the little piece of paper they say needs to be signed which will warrant any damage whilst be transported will be covered.

- Physically visit Audio Vision and inform them ( to be fair, on a very low key level - I say I will take it up with Craig (the salesman) on a serious note. They say it is likely unshielded HDMI cables...offer to sell me some HDMI cables....

This set buzzes, audibly, at viewing distance. Thats what got me so annoyed with the Let Me Repair technicians. Even though they said it was normal for the set to buzz, I got them to agree that they could hear it from approximately 2.5 to 3 meters away. I also got them to agree that they would put this in their report to Samsung - which they didn't.

I can hear this buzzing in quiet moments in movies, and in things like tennis when the crowd goes quiet before a serve etc.
