    When will 1GB / 2GB / 3GB be offered at R99 / R149 / R199 respectively on prepaid?

Last december they had a special for 20gb for R500. That was a good deal, but not sure what this R5 rubbish is suppose to be.

It is not a good promotion, but at least it is sustainable.

In retrospect this is probably an excellent introduction to Vodacom's version of mobile broadband for the uneducated masses.

They will learn very quickly that the OOB shark makes those things swimming around False Bay look like Nemo.

So was this one put to bed and forgotten or was there a follow-up story to this?

Since posting in this thread I have discovered that Vodacom have adjusted their Webbox pricing such that for R400 it is the device and a year access with 100Mb per month. This does change the product from being positively exploitative of the poor and as a knock on affects the justifiability of my comment in this thread.

It is a tragic conundrum in many industries that low revenue customers get ****ty deals and a generally regressive (price against means) charging system exists - if you can afford it you can get a big bad banking product at R99 s month which represents a fraction of your income but if you are earning under R2000 and are paying on transactions you end up paying R30 or so each month in banking related costs - yes you are paying less than the R99, but you are getting so much less out of the deal AND it represents a much more significant portion of your income - but the alternative is often no service at all.

What I am particularly hopeful of is the possibility that Vodacom will extend this such that the WebBox has lifetime 100Mb free internet per month per household

with the horse trading that is no doubt taking place between the different powers that be over amongst other things DTT - both the return channel thing and digital dividends - and shake ups pertaining to universal service funding the business case can be made ...

But yes I am an optimist
