Burry Stander in mountain bike event

I just switched on the TV, and see that Burry Stander dropped off the top 3 because he had to make up time from lap 2 to lap 3.

Does anyone know what happened?

He didn't have the cadence going up the climb with the rocks. Imagine trying to go up van Reenen in 6th gear.
Gaining ground on such a technical course is difficult to say the least, and nevermind tiring.

He got stuck behind an accident and had to move back up from 19th. That's a lot of ground to make up and I think it eventually took it's toll. He had a sniff for bronze at the end but I think it was just bad luck.

He had to make a couple of come backs due to falling etc. so he did very well. Still young, so he has time to develop his techinque for next time.

Last time I saw so many blokes chase a Stander like that was after a couple of bank robberies

i dont have dstv or internet at home, so was horrified when SABC2 cut to 7de laan, oh wait... A REPEAT of 7de laan instead of showing the race.they then went on to show the last 30sec or so of the race... > still cant believe it...
