Thread: Not able to roam on MTN anymore- Can it be fixed?

Default Not able to roam on MTN anymore- Can it be fixed?

So I activated the prepaid data promotion option on my main phone's simcard today, with the intention of using the R149 3gig promotion in the future. Now my phone only connects on the Telkom network, and does not want to roam on MTN anymore. That is a big problem for me, as there are only certain places where I get 8ta coverage here. Is it possible to reset my simcard to roam again?
Or if I do a sim-swap, will it be able to roam again?
This is my main number which I have had for ±10 years, so I cannot just get a new number.
Another option is to port out, and then back to 8ta in 2 months time, but I would prefer not to go that route...
    Any advice?

    The last I heard/read...

The 8ta specials like the R199 for 10GB are not permitted to roam.

Perharps your selection is one of those?

That I understand. What happens is that as soon as I move out of 8ta coverage, I have no signal at all. I cannot make or receive calls. I also read somewhere on this forum that the sim cards can roam, but the promo will not be applicable while the sim is roaming.

Remember, no roaming on GoBig specials. If you need roaming, buy standard bundle. As long your 2+1GB is active, no roaming. When bundle expires phone call centre if still problem persist.

I have read a few of the threads.

Interesting how we read the same stuff but understand it differently.

Seems to me that your sim is 8ta tower-locked, for a lack of a better term, for thr duration of your bundle or contract.

I have not activated any new bundle yet- I still have data left from a 100meg bundle I activated in July. My sim is on prepaid... I will try the 8ta help desk later today and see if they can help me.

    Hi Charlh!

Please PM us your 8ta number and/or reference number so we can see if we can help further?

As a rule - we do not convert customers from the data promo deal to normal prepaid:
    FAQ from our website:
Will I be able to migrate from the pre-paid PSB data promo rate plan to the standard pre-paid rate plan?
Conversions / migrations from the pre-paid PSB data promo rate plan to the standard pre-paid rate plans will not be allowed and subscribers will have to purchase a new pre-paid SIM card with the standard rate plan. Subscribers, however, will be able to run an airtime transfer transaction if required.
There are quite a number of roleplayers to change it back and we will try to get this done for you sooner.

Ok, so it seems 8ta might be able to help me. Must wait till next month to see if they can revert to 8ta more tarriff plan. If not, I will port out, and maybe port back after 2 months. The freedom of prepaid
