PS64E800 - Tips and issues

So I thought id start a thread on this tv that I have bought.
Its an expensive TV with many features so its good to get advice from others.
I know there is a thread on buzzing so I thought this will put everything in one place.

I am loving this tv. Great clarity and stunning 3D. (I was a sceptic before)
Apps like skype, angry birds etc work great.

Only problem I'm having is getting the allshare to work. The tv finds my synology nas but it doesn't seem to like its small cousin my galaxy note. So no streaming between devices.
Anyone else with this issue?

awesome!!! im really interested in getting this tv.just a quickie... where did you get it from? did shopping around help or should i take the plunge and pay the 40k at hirsch's?

Definitely shop around. Plus I got the bundle with the galaxy tab and sold it on gumtree for R3300 which brought the price down.

Yep.
But I must say the screen is quite bright despite thos lights being on.

Still having that allshare issue though.
May have to try a wired connection to troubleshoot

Agreed, brightness is 99% of the time a non issue unless we're talking tons of natural [sun]light streaming in.

You misunderstand, its not the brightness of the screen (luminosity), but rather the brightness of the colours (tones). Plasmas are not good at displaying pure whites and other bright colours.

For instance the shirt of a football player with clean white kit should look OMO white (LED) under stadium floodlights, not a dull white (plasma) like the shirt is unwashed.

I prefer natural looking whites than unrealistic looking blue-tinge whites from LCD/LED-LCD.

I find not having bright whites is mostly insignificant. They are still white and not off colour to me. Plasma still leads with higher contrast ratios and overall picture quality. You must really be watching in direct sunlight or under lots of ambient lighting to need bright whites and [further washed out] colours so much.

Looking forward to iceman's review of his 3 year old 6 Series plasma which burns his brand new ES6200. That ought to make people think twice and ruffle some feathers. Of course I'm open to your idea that it's possibly "not configured properly"...

You keep stating that as fact when it is merely your opinion. Sure the contrast values for various models of both technologies do vary, but it would be inaccurate to make a blanket statement that plasmas have higher contrast ratios e.g.

It's a general blanket fact. Of course not every plasma beats every LCD.

Those stats from that website also tend to be disingenuous because they take readings at the center of the screen. This means that LCDs/LED-LCDs can get away with having backlight uniformity issues which is consistent in backlit LCD tech.

There is a reason why many enthusiasts still buy plasma, why many people buy plasma after comparing vs LCD under the correct non-bright showroom conditions, and why people more often than not admit that plasma generally provides better picture quality than equivalent and even "marketed/sold as superior" LCD/LED-LCDs.
