Hi!
I have a recurring problem with my 8ta sim cards that so far 8ta has been unable to help me with so I turn to the MyBroadband geniuses!
The short version: Roughly every month to two months, my sim card for my 8ta 60gb + 60gb package stops working and I have to have a sim swap. When it stops working the modem says that no sim card is inserted. I am now on my 4th sim card.
The longer version: About 15 months ago, I bought the Cell C 5gb x 12 months package plus a Netcomm Myzone modem. Everything worked fine except that most months 5gb was not sufficient. So, after 9 months or so I bought the 8ta 60gb + 60gb and would pop the 8ta sim into the modem for the last few days of every month. After about a month after buying the 8ta sim, the modem would not connect saying that the sim was not inserted. Rebooting or reinserting the sim would fix this for a few hours for the first day then a few minutes the next and then the sim stopped working. Putting the sim into a phone results in a "sim error" message. Maybe one in ten reboots the sim will work for a few minutes.
So I took the sim back to 8ta and they replaced it. Then about 6 weeks later the exact same thing happened. So I had it replaced again. By this time the Cell C package had expired so the 8ta sim remained in the modem but the issue reappeared last week so I am now on my 4th sim.
After the second time, 8ta "investigated the line" but could find no issues. They (Canal Walk branch) say that they have never encountered this recurring issue before. Each time they also inspect the sim and confirm that it has not been damaged physically.
I did some searching online and was unable to find anyone else with a similar problem.
I used the same Cell C sim card or a whole year (much of this overlapping with using the 8ta sims) without having to replace it once, which makes me think that it is not the modem that is the problem.
Does anyone perhaps have any suggestions as to what is happening and how I can avoid another annoying sim swap? The Canal Walk branch is also starting to question whether my sim swaps should be free.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Wayne
