Angry MTN calls going directly to voicemail

I was just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues??
More and more I am getting people telling me that they tried calling me, but my phone never rang.
Just today my wife tried to call me and it kept going straight to voicemail. she called from a telkom landline, cellc phone and even a vodacom phone, but all went to voicemail. The voicemail has still not arrived!!
She then tried "please call mes", which only recently arrived.
This is not the first time this has happened, and the last time I called MTN they blamed it on my phone. If indeed it was my phone, surely the voicemail message should have come through, along with the "please call me" (if the phone just started working again).
I am now wondering how many other calls I have missed. This really is unacceptable service levels.

What make and model phone is it?

I have a slightly different scenario. The phone does not ring (I use it with a bluetooth headset) yet it says "Missed calls". No good calling CellC, you get Mr or Ms Clueless.

If you have got call waiting disabled, would an incoming call while you are busy speaking to someone else register as a missed call? Today no regular calls between 11.30 and 14.30, yet 2 missed calls, one at 11.55 and another (same number) at 12.04.

The call centre will always blame the phone (or the dstv installation) or whatever. It gets them off the hook quicker

I have exactly the same problem and don't receive more than 50% of calls. I think the reason is the poor MTN reception in my place.Getting worse this year.

I got a samsung galaxy S1 .... and was wondering if the apps on the phone could be causing this, but I don't see how that is possible ... but you never really can tell

I am also getting bad reception at home, but the "missed calls" happen in the city center with very good coverage ....
I logged a call with their coverage department to come check out my coverage at home and they are sending someone out this week, so hopefully will get that resolved and will see if he can help with the "non-ringing calls to voicemail"

The MTN techie was very helpful and said he wants to put a cell extender to improve reception, but I was not too keen on the idea. So they are looking at putting a "mini tower"(forget what he called it) at my place to improve coverage for the area. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. I have a few concerns about this, but will see the final proposal before I say no.
He did say that he would get someone to call me about the calls going to voicemail and apparently they would be able to trace the calls and see where the problem was. So will update once I get that info

I have the same problem on MTN with my S1. However 2 other ppl also on MTN Xperia X10 and Satio. So the phone is not the issues. Also it happens at work and home.
I heard that MTN uses a higher frequency for their network which means it does not travel well through buildings and obstacles and therefore the very bad reception. Vodacom and CellC uses a lower frequency and thus have better reception.
    My opinion MTN network sucks.
MTN also offered us the booster however it huge and ugly and we need 2 things installed in the house to have coverage due to having solid brick walls and not hollow bricks.

    Likewise.

Same problems. Have been with MTN for almost a decade now. This year has definitely been the worst for dropped calls as well.
