A previous lecturer of mine runs the Edinburgh AI course on coursera -strongly recommend it, looks almost the same as the course I did as part of my degree.

I don't go to coursera.org any more. It depresses me. All that knowledge available for free and no time to absorb it. I've tried to work though a few of their courses, but then I encounter a busy work week and fall way behind. Is it normal to get turned on when reading their course list?

One thing I will say, the ****hole UNISA could learn a few things from them; probably increase their pass rates 200%, but noooooo UNISA likes it in the dark ages, the more students fail, the more the lecturers earn in textbook royalties.

Nice one. Also check http://thenewboston.org/tutorials.php for software development tutorials, http://www.codecademy.com for development as well, and http://www.academicearth.org/ for free education.

    And the Google Python class.

Edit: and if you're so inclined, the Lynda courses on pirate bay.

Easy...I think its a great idea however the courses are worth nothing. you don't get a certificate from the actual university itself. only from the professor/lecturer.

having a certificate signed by Professor Joe Soap on a blank piece of paper will mean nothing to a prospective employer. if it the certificate was from Penn State for example that would be a different matter entirely.

Of course but the lecturers have to actually dedicate their time/resources to providing these courses. I suppose they are trying to inspire people to actually take university courses?

Besides having these on your CV surely can't hurt you.

Will the 6 hours a week for 6 weeks be worth something that "might" look good on my CV? I just don't see the justification to do these courses for a busy working professional who is intending to advance himself in the work place.

Again great idea if you just feel like learning something but its not so great for me in my situation.

Well I am seeing them more as something to use if you actually want to learn about the subject and not really just because you want to put something on a CV.

I just completed my fourth Coursera course! I would like to see it grow a bit more locally; I had an excellent experience studying with a local friend I made through the course.
