I am on Vodacom Prepaid, but after reading this I think it is time to port to CellC.

Will porting affect my WhatsApp, Gmail or any other Apps in any way?

Porting will mean you move your number as well - so your whatsapp contacts will still be in touch with you without any changes,
No other app is dependant on your phone number AFAIK, unless you've got GMail or something else authenticating you with a once off SMS.
Even then, you should be good.

I believe some operators have these *** warranty issue - solution - just take the offending sim out if you need to have your phone seen to.

    Vodacom's version of Cinderella:
Cinderella is a Vodacom prepaid subscriber.
She found that she was constantly being bitten by the ER (Excessive Rate) shark (closely related to the OOB shark) and her prepaid airitme was being chowed faster that she could earn the money to top it up.
She cried out to her fairy godmother (strange iomages come to mind here) and her fairy godmother waved tha magic 3G stick and told her about "Vodacom’s prepaid Day-Night Double free airtime promotion"

She the purchased a R29.00 voucher and found she was still in the Shark tank getting chowed by the ER Shark.
She cried out again and her fairy godmother told her she first has to subscribe to the promotion by dialling *111#
She then topped up with another R29.00 voucher
This meant that she could climb out of the shark tank on the day she used her voucher and could then only communicate for free (note only 1 hour) with the other suckers in the Vodacom shark tank and only up until midnight, when she was dumped back in the shark tank and being pursued by ER Shark.
Also if she wanted to communicate with other users in other tanks during this time, she had to get back in the Shark tank only to be pursued by her old foe - ER Shark.

    But wait there's more!
She could now climb out of the Shark tank only between the hours of midnight and 5am for 7 consecutive days and communicate for free but only with the other suckers in the Vodacom shark tank. Problem was though the other suckers in the Vodacom shark tank were real cranky due to constantly being chased by ER Sharks and they did not appreciate these free calls in the middle of the night.
Oh yes, I almost forgot that when she uses data at any time even during this promotion OOB shark also wants to get his bite out of her.....
Painful story if you ask me.

    Cell C's version of Cinderella
Cinderella Goes on the the Cell C 99c promotion.
Immediately she can climb out of ANY shark tank and communicate with ANY user in any tank
Cell C's 99c tank also has the option of protecting you against OOB shark, by purchasing a data contract and paying 15c per meg for the month regardless of whether you are in or out of bundle.
At this point OOB shark is banished from her tank for the rest of the month.
    Short and Sweet story.

Sorry kids but I do not have the time or energy to digest the MTN fairy tale (or 8ta, but again 8ta I think is a good story too) and spew out their version of Cinderella.
LOL great way of putting it and so true

I doubt it and wouldn't care to be honest.
What's the chances of a service centre checking for that?

Very slim, and I would like to see them try and "void" the warranty for using a device on another network...

lends itself to some ambiguity, but you don't lose your warranty.
So all you say is the phone was in the cupboard and started acting up when you started using it again.
