"Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove..."
I've been disappointed every single time that I've had to rely on the Police for anything, so I no longer do. I pay a security company money every month and they have never disappointed...
If it wasn't a requirement for insurance, I wouldn't report crimes to the Police because they no longer investigate. The only competent detectives are used explicitly on high profile cases. I don't want them to come into my house and window-shop.

I've looked at a lot of the videos, and I'm yet to find one showing the crowd firing on Police. Are the Police so badly trained that they would stand up straight in a line when under fire?
Yes 5 or 6 firearms were recovered. Apparently one of them was the dead Police officers. RIP. Did those firearms even have ammunition in them? Does that give the Police permission to fire into a crowd?
The Police on scene didn't have much of a choice in the matter because apparently they were told they weren't allowed to use rubber bullets any more after the Tatane murder. They didn't have the right gear. They didn't have the right training. But heads should roll at Police HQ for this screw up. Considering the number of riots our Police are involved with every day they should be the world leaders in Riot control.
Both sides are to blame...

Well then I do take it that you do not live in the Western Cape. I as someone in blue am quite proud of my work and what I do. Move to my area and get service at it's best.
It's a shame that we have people with your mentality as to assume that if one apple is rotten then all of them are. I do not window shop in others homes as I work for what I want and appreciate what I have that much more as I have toiled for it.
Any way the fact of the matter is that you should keep your crit to yourself as you do not know what it is like in the line of duty. Please I beg you to come walk the mile first before YOU throw your harsh statements around
Wyzak look in the background of those videos and you'll see the cops firing teargas and using water cannons before they are rushed.

But to continue with your analogy. If you buy a bag of apples and the first one you take out is rotten, so is the second one and the third one and the fourth one. How many apples are you going to take out before throwing the bag away? How many times should I bump my head against the wall and hope for a different outcome?
I've given the SAPS about 10 attempts, and they've failed each one. Shall I just continue and hope for a better outcome next time? I'm sorry but I'm not in the business of accepting failure.

Yeah I saw that, and would have liked to see more traditional crowd control measures.
I suppose one could argue that those people were being boxed in (because they were) and then after having tear gas shot into the middle of the crowd (which was) they would try to run away (which they did). If they only saw one exit and happened to run towards the exit, only to run into a line of police officers who got a massive fright that would be quite unfortunate right?
Who says those guys knew were they were running? They could very well have been blinded by the teargas.
Most of the guys that I've seen from the video were running low to the ground. I'm not 100% convinced that they were trying to attack the Police.
Please try to think about this from a neutral perspective and not to be clouded by the fact that we hate unions and strikers with a passion and want to see them brought to book. This isn't the right way to make them pay...

In memory of all the policemen we know...Massacre they scream
Murder they cry
They don’t even look at the facts
They don’t ask why
They see the men run
They see police fire!
But before this –
What all did transpire?
They show only minutes
Of what lasted a week
They point fingers and blame
don't think before they speak
They don’t know what it’s like
to stand in the line
To feel tension and risk
all of the time
They don’t see our planning
Our attempts to bring peace
They just see dead bodies
and point blame at the police
They don’t stop to think
to think of our lives.
We’re just normal people
with family lives
They call them victims
and visit their beds.
They ignore our dead colleagues
and just shake their heads
So I just shrug my shoulders
and keep dressing in blue. I’m doing my job
protecting people like you.
Sometimes it is hard,
the decisions we make -
to protect life and property
and all that’s at stake
We have months worth of training
and more every day.
We learn tactics and planning
forget what THEY say
We serve with pride
and dignity to boot
and if they don’t recognize this
I don’t give a hoot
I know I serve proudly
and think it all through
all for the sake
of protecting people like you
And when the dust has all settled
and the blame has been laid
I’ll still be standing here
that’s just how I’m made
I stand tall and proud
and take it each day
it’s part of the job
it's the policemans way
I’m not black or white
I’m really just BLUE
and proud of my job
- protecting people like you!
