Thread: Recently ported? Does Cell C's service equal their great products?

Default Recently ported? Does Cell C's service equal their great products?

Quickie on my situation. Ported to Cell C prepaid for the 99c tariff two months ago. Seriously horrendous port as my work could not get a hold of me through their landlines! 8 separate tickets/calls to the porting department. They have no decent diagnostic capability. Eventually I had to track down our office manager to determine who our telephone provider was since telkom numbers calling me worked. Found out it was Neotel. Passed this info to Cell C and even then they couldn't resolve. Only my dogged persistence got the issue escalated and sorted. Where have you heard a customer running around sooo much just to give these guys my own money. I swear I nearly lost my job as I missed quite a few important calls. The story continues...
Wednesday 15th August: Went to Sandton City Cell C. Requested a migration to postpaid. Was assured all will be good within 1 hr of application so I left.
Friday 17th: Still on prepaid. Called the store. Another salesperson looks for my paperwork and finally processes it. Can you believe, two days later and they still sitting on my application. Again was told all will be good in 1 hr. Here is where it all breaks down. As soon as the migration kicked in on their side, I lost all services. Calls, data, sms. Saturday 18th: Went back to the sandton store and was told it will take 24 hrs for the contract to become active. Still no services.
    Sunday: No services.
Monday: Still no services. Went to another Cell C store in greenstone...again no help...just told me to go home with a stupid reference number. Yes, its a long story...a very long and painful story...New Cell C customers, pray tell, how has your experience been?

Ohh dont get me started.... Ported from 8ta to Cellc. Stuck with cellc simcard and 8ta simcard both working. Recieving mtn and cellc calls on cellc simcard and recieving vodacom,8ta and telkom calls on 8ta simcard.

Porting guys say it 8ta. 8ta say cellc is doing something wrong. I swore one guy @ cellc to get this ****ing sorted out and he hung up. dont really blame him.

2 weeks later its ported finally BUT I can not recieve ANY calls from 8ta network. 8ta people calling me get the error saying my number does not exist.

Wow...your story takes the porting cake! Makes me wonder what Number Portability Company (Pty) Ltd actually does. Surely they should set, maintain and monitor the porting process? My issue now is that my usual modus operandi of voting with my money and feet as I did with Vodacom and MTN in the past really doesnt work here...because Cell C is sooo cheap!!!

I've just ported to Cell C, from MTN. MTN was dropping my calls, not managing to put calls through to me and many people got the message that my number didn't exist. Besides that, they were costing me a small fortune in high call rates...
Anyway, I dreaded the schlep of porting, so put it off for many months. Finally got to the Cell C branch in Somerset West Mall, at about 10 to 5 this afternoon. Had to wait for another customer about 5 mins. Then it was my turn: Gave proof of address and ID. The lady quickly entered the data, checked my details, gave me my new SIM, explained the procedure, and less than 10 minutes later I was out the door! She said that the changeover would probably happen around 7pm.
I actually got disconnected from MTN at about 7:30pm and an hour later I was able to call again, on the Cell C network!
What a breeze! Well done Cell C !
Hearing all these bad experiences noted previously, I wonder if it's going to keep on being smooth sailing, but so far I'm very impressed!!

What do you mean: "Just smsed the porting number"? What porting number did you sms to where?

It seems I do have a problem, as at least one 8.ta number can't call me, and gets the message that the number is unavailable on the MTN network...

So, what do I do now?

Had the same problem me and a colleague. Both of us ported from MTN (but our numbers were originally issued by Vodacom) to Cell C. Neotel numbers couldn't reach us. The Cell_C rep sorted us out.

He might be on leave, maybe try Cell C on Facebook or Twitter. I hear those guys are good with support too.

Side note: It would seem that many users experience this problem after porting. The issue here is that you won't know about this problem unless someone, through a different means, contact you about not being able to reach you.
Imagine you enter a competition and they move on to the next entrant cause they think you gave the wrong contact details...

all networks got problems. you just pray you dont get a problem/s as they're all equally useless solving it.

never had a problem with cellc but recently i get dropped calls and bad reception. and this happened after cellc built a new tower about 100m from my home. now its terrible.

they blamed my phone. a brand new samsung galaxy s3 i got on contract from them. put my 8ta and vodacom simcards in, then there's no problem. this cellc could not explain to me.
