Default Neoflex to iBurst uncapped? Yes, absolutely, No, Never ever?

    Hi all,

Im in a dilemma, im currently on Neotel's 5gig Neoflex package... the mandatory contract period has finished, so im wondering if i should migrate to iBurst uncapped? because really, 5gigs pm is nothing... i currently go over the subscription by +- R500 pm which is crazy. I cant get a telkom line at my house because the lady who lives behind me does not want a poll in her garden (waiting for those very imaginative mybb jokes to come from that lol) and theres really tall trees all around my house so any chance of a wisp provider is out (already had Amobia come out and do the free site survey). So basically all i can do is get iBurst uncapped or stay with Neoflex (as cellular data bundles are crazy priced apart from the 60 + 60gig 8ta deal).

So what do you guys think? is it worth getting the iBurst uncapped? are the speeds on the 2mb package decent? (I saw a few screenshots from speedtest.net and i must say those speeds were absolutely dismal! especially when you pay R890 pm). Also, somebody said that there is a certain amount of gigs you can DL a day at your optimal speed before you get hectically shaped?

    Thanks in advance!

I may have this wrong... but iBurst uncapped is only on the DSL offerings...

With the single desktop modem and panel antenna on my roof facing my neighbors double story house... which obviously blocks the tower, I get around 20-30Kbps during the day (I'm willing to bet money iBurst is throttling... those bastards), 80-100Kbps from 12 till around 8 in the morning. I have had patches where I was able to play Diablo3 for a week with latencies below 300. Then there was times when it was above 3000, who knows why.

I paid around R500 for my modem and around R500 for my panel antenna.
R450 a month for 50gigs is the biggest factor keeping me on iBurst... at least untill the end of the month when uncapped 1mbps DSL starts coming in at the same price.

Getting iBurst is a gamble... pretty much dependant on the signal strength, signal quality and the load on the tower (which may also be time of day dependant).
If you know somebody who's willing to borrow you a modem(/antenna too if able) for a week/month to test, I would go that route before commiting to a contract.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the info man. Really appreciate it. Are you on a month-to-month contract? Thats a pretty sweet deal, somebody told me a while ago that getting the capped account like yours will be better because they're less 'throttled' by iBurst than the uncapped accounts.

The thing about Neotel is that the speed is not super but its always constant. I play MW3 a lot, sometimes in the day, and i ping around 180 which IMO is good. And i dont need antennas and stuff because the reception is always 100% where i live. So its a tough one, i wish they would also offer large capped accounts. I emailed the suggestion to them, lets see if they reply LOL.

Yeah thats a good idea, ill try find someone who has an iBurst account and just test it. The other factor is that I really do not want to get into another 24 month contract lol especially at the current wireless data prices which should come down (I know wishful thinking )
