Thread: The cold murder fields of Marikana.

Default The cold murder fields of Marikana.

Some of the miners killed in the 16 August massacre at Marikana appear to have been shot at close range or crushed by police vehicles. They were not caught in a fusillade of gunfire from police defending themselves, as the official account would have it. GREG MARINOVICH spent two weeks trying to understand what really happened. What he found was profoundly disturbing.

    It's a long shocking read.

Sheesh... I would also like to see some answers to this, but I'm sorry... that article is hardly objective and is filled with wild speculation.
He really has no idea what happened there. Those people could have been killed by stray bullets. Did he actually see the bodies? Did he see the line of fire? They could have even been killed by stray bullets from their own guys firing at the police from right behind them. If you watch the video you can see that the police were taking fire. Once again, let's wait for the results of the official enquiry, before we listen to the emotional speculations of some reporter with a VERY obvious bias and goal.

To paint the police in a bad light. Surely that fact did not escape you?

The media have been trying to paint the police in a bad light here since the first shot was fired.

Are these journalists and photographers qualified in forensics and crime scene analysis?

Let's leave it to the professionals.

But something tells me already that they are not going to like the outcome, so they are trying to use as much black paint as possible before the truth comes out.

Perhaps killing some cops and security guards was not their best idea.

Go back to when they burnt those two security guards alive and killed a cop

Five people, including a police officer, have now been killed in clashes between unions at platinum producer Lonmin’s Western Platinum mine, 100 km northwest of Johannesburg. The dead policeman was killed by a machete, while another officer attacked in the same incident was seriously wounded. The company is expecting the situation to return to calm given the level of security on site.

I would also hunt down/slaughter people who hacked one of my friends to death and burnt two guards alive.

Agreed. That article is highly speculative. In any event - those "fields" were hot in every sense, not cold, and if you want to play with fire, you are likely to get burned.

I understand this but you can't just go and kill people. Maybe they had some intelligence that we don't know about ?

The AlJazeera crew at the incident, got footage of the miners sneaking up on the police and one of them starting to fire at the police with a semi automatic pistol.

This was broadcast a day or two after it happened, to show that from where the ALJazeera crew were standing they could see the miners sneak up on the police, compared to other broadcasters, that had crews in positions where they could not see the miners approaching.

When it comes to killing cops, i don't think there are rules. When you burn two people alive in a bakkie or however it went down the rules fly out the window as well.

The strikers should not be blaming the cops or the government. They are not fighting for freedom, i cannot even begin to imagine how you burn two people alive because you want a higher salary but slaughtering people who think like that can only help the situation .

The strikers can blame anyone they like and the media can do their best to paint the situation a certain way but the strikers got what they deserved.

there's a difference between opening fire on a mob charging towards you and going on a systematic hunt down of suspected perpetrators...

Am I the only one that thinks that the police had orders to shoot to kill that day?

They had assault rifles, not rubber bullets & teargas.

Could this have been orders from the ANC/government, since the strikers weren't from the NUM/Cosatu?
