they should just say their are used by everyone except Telkom (including TI and 8ta)
How? I am still stuck with Telkomcalled on ISPs to play a leading role in offering “serious broadband” to consumers.
How do I get to benefit? What must I do?
You know what would be REALLY valuable? If DFA came out and gave us the real costs of getting FTTH - we keep hearing how expensive it is, and DFA obviously believe the cost to get fiber to the users are realistic - so what's that number? I think we'd all put a lot more pressure on ISPs if we knew that the costs involved were realistic and attainable.
WTFscknut?! DFA's Live in my little suburb?!
Why have I not got FTTx if they're sweeping by my hood?
Come on ISP's!
Why should they divulge cost?
Anyway - I think I've read articles before where they've given indications of it.
Remember - they're just the pipe, they've got the pairs, ISP's need to roll with this mofo and light it up!
Shake&Bake™. That, just happened!
There are two fixed line operators? Wow, this is news to meand to one of the two fixed-line operators![]()
Think for yourself, Question authority, Know what's going on
Why? To give people a reason to get excited. All you ever hear is that it's too expensive to do, that's why we don't have it. DFA is suggesting it is a realistic aim. Facts and figures, please. If I knew how much it cost, and it was indeed a reasonable cost, from there we could work out how many people you need to connect to make it viable. I'd be more than happy to canvass my neighborhood and then pass the customer list on to whoever would roll out the fiber, as I'm sure many others here would.
Yes - but that's the easy part. The hard (time consuming and expensive) part is what DFA is doing. Right now there's nothing to light up. Once the customers are on the other side of the fiber, don't worry - the ISP's will be clamouring to deliver services to them!

MTN, Dark Fibre, Convergence Partners, Joburg Network Project (correct name??) and Telkom all have fibre laid outside my house on both roads bordering my house. At any point in my house, I'm no further than 40m from fibre, yet I can't get FTTH. Why?
But telkoms backbone is only 100Mb??????
Ummm... newsflash: Telkom, BBI (and probably Vodacom and MTN) already have fibres to Mthatha and entire OR Tambo district. Backhaul is not the issue there, it's the local loop networks. Good luck to anyone operator deploying any type of fixed line network there!“DFA’s optic fibre network is expanding to smaller cities and towns at a rapid pace, enabling Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to offer their services to new markets. It will launch the Mthatha district into the digital age,” DFA said in a press statement.
Celine: "I'm not saying you're stupid, I just think you have bad luck when it comes to thinking."
