Thread: SAOL's 30GB "limited offer"

    Default SAOL's 30GB "limited offer"

    Hiya

Not normally one to do things like this, but thought i'd just you guys a heads up if you're considering taking up one of SAOL's "limited offer" 30GB accounts.

I signed up at the start of the month and have had nothing but trouble. They claim it is run from their own infrastructure (from SAIX) but I somehow doubt that. Latency has been terrible, uptime non-existent (or should I say downtime has been great? ) and international connectivity has been up, at best, 60% of the time. (I've tested TelkomInternet, All You Can Eat, etc accounts and they work without a hitch).

When I emailed them, they replied saying this service is not meant for P2P or gaming, its a 'best effort' service and that it's basically just meant for online banking, and emailing. I'm OK with that, but ironically I cant get that to work!! I have had to resort to another 1gb account for doing essential stuff, aswell as a buddy who's been kind enough to share his account.

Make sure you look at all the possibilities before you take them up on this offer.

This is typical to SAOL and this is why I am not using them any more.

Maybe when they say "limited offer" they mean that their offering is very limited!

Guys, when you have trouble with a service, please first ask questions, wait for some. If no answers are forthcoming note it in the thread after a day or so. When you come back with a thread like this one, refer to you unanswered complaint to keep it fair. This is just a suggestion to avoid possible victimization of service providers. SAOL might well have attempted to remedy the complaint.

So remember, complain, wait for reply, if there is no reply from the service provider then you can make sweeping statements all you want (as long as you show your badge/link/proof of prior complaint).

Unless SAOL comes in now with a remedy. For all we know Telkom f###ed up!

    Hiya antowan

Understand exactly what you mean. The last thing I wanted to do here was to slate them, so sorry if that's how it came across. It just seems as if i'm going in a circle here. Replies are the same each time and connectivity is terrible day after day. Only reason I stuck with them through all of this is because I payed quite a lot for this, and i'm not willing to throw that away without at least trying to get something out of it.

When the account works, speeds flucuate a bit, but on average, it's close to full speed. Oddly, the first half of the month it seems as if I only got 512k speeds, even though I have a 1024k line. The last week or two http speeds have been more consistent in 1024k terms.
