Hi just wondering if anyone else is having ADSL problems in the Kuils River area (CPT) 021 903?

Been having a average ping of 500ms and download speeds of 0.15Mbps. Tried different ISP's and routers. Still the same.

I have been upgraded to a 10MB line in August, ran well for a week but since September I was forced to downgrade back to 4MB to check if problem persists. Contacted Telkom about 5 times but problem is still not solved. They sent a techie 2 weeks ago.He did some work and said its fixed, but clearly not.

I have logged another fault so now have to wait for Telkom to contact me.

Yes!

Someone else in Kuils River is also having issues!

For the last two weeks now I've noticed the following:
  1. On the weekend after 8am ping to US goes from 250ms to 600ms+
  2. During the week, ping doubles after 9am until about 11am, then again after 3pm until who knows when
  3. Download speeds during the day very very slow
  4. I'm on mweb uncapped 4mb, but moving to axxess next month
  5. For a while, I couldn't connect to MWeb because of a Port Swapping fault with Telkom that made MWeb think I was coming from the wrong phone number. MWeb told me this was happening to lots of people in the 021903XXXX group of numbers.

I think it's likely Telkom has messed something up in the local area. Either that or everyone got upgraded line speeds and start hammering the exchange and it's falling over...

LOL

Thats the exact problems I am having. At least now I know its not my line or modem or something on my side.

I spoke to a Telkom supervisor on Saturday because the normal guys know jack, he said that a "specialist" is working on the problem. I will inform them that other people are having the same problem. I thought it has to be a mess up from the line upgrades.

Hmmmmmmmmm, post if/when it does get sorted for you.

Also in Kuilsrivier area, I have a 1mb MWEB uncapped and an unshaped FNB account on my 4mbit line, ALSO HAVING ISSUES with high latency and frequent disconnects. Worst internet experience I have ever had.

Telkom support says everything is fine like always (I dont think the support guys has a clue what I am saying anyway) lol Telkom looking for some staff that actually have networking experience?, wow paying over a thousand for **** telecom services like this!

Hey guys i'm with you in the same boat. I have exactly the same problem slow throughput. slower than a 384kbps browsing speed on a 4mbps uncapped mweb account. Calling telkom in the morning also got upgraded to 10mbps adsl line and having latency of like 720ms. its unbearable. i'll keep you posted.

I have no problems with local traffic but international traffic is a problem. Last week BF3 on the Xbox was unplayable at stages.

I have been upgraded to a 6MB line but I am quite far from the exchange at KFC.

It seems like Kuils River has been completely cooked by Telkom. I think everyone in the area should work to swamp them with Fault Reports so that they get a clue. Ask your friends, ask your family, make Telkom wriggle...

I agree, im on 4 faults already

Arrrrrrghhhhhh....Thought I was alone. On 4mbps line syncing at 10mbps, not getting more than 1mbps from speedtest.net

Tried 2 different modems.

Used the telkom test account and still getting horrendous downloads speeds. Seems like we have some issues with congestion in Kuils River from the looks of things.

Keep us updated on the faults

Are you guys getting problems on local and international traffic? Mine seems to be only on international.

Yes, the issue primarily affects international traffic. I don't make enough use of local traffic to say for sure though...

If it is primarily international traffic causing problems is it an exchange problem? Surely if local is fine then the exchange is fine, it is a throttling problem from your ISP. Or am I wrong?

I suspect you are wrong because even if the ISP was throttling that still wouldn't explain why a simple ping to a US located server is taking 800ms whereas it used to take 250ms before. Throttling primarily affects throughput, it should not affect ping as far as I know...

Anyways, I have logged another fault with Telkom and asked them to send someone to look at the exchange.

Okay so spoke to Telkom again today, spoke to a guy Dean I think he is the only guy worth speaking to at Telkom lol.

If you guys want you can give him a call at the 10210 number he knows the whole situation and he is aware that its all of us having the same problem.

You could link you fault reference numbers to mine, the reference number is 21AWK150912. My fault has been sent to the exchange today.

Well, they sent someone around to my exchange yesterday. No change, except for one:

My line is now syncing at 3mbps rather than 4mbps.

Woop-de-doo.

Hey OOPMan my problem in kuilsriver is persisting too. I'm getting on average 20kbps on a 4mbps uncapped from mweb does seem to be the exchange gonna log a fault too. its rediculas.

Still broken, no improvement.

Two new things to note:

1: A ping test to Cape Town (I.e. Local connection) takes 300-400ms with no other traffic!

2: Used the internet at the pyconza 2012 conference at the waterfront and got a nice 250ms ping to the USA and an easy 1mbps downstream. This was on a shared wifi connection being used by something like 100 people!

Conclusion: Kuils River ADSL is completely effed up

He's something to make you all sick:

TL;DR: A local server should not have a ping of 480ms!

My speedtest result to London on my line that is syncing at 6MB:

My connection has been better the last few days.

@OOPman: Where in Kuils River are you?
