Thread: Which host provider to use

Default Which host provider to use

    Hello ,

I am relatively new in the game and are looking at a host provider for websites. The sites are mainly build in wordpress and smf (forums). The one I like so far is http://texo.co.za. Anyone have any feedback on this ? The site are all small to medium sites and must be wordpress friendly. I was thinking about hosting overseas using paypal as a payment method but I dont know enough yet.

    Some questions I have.

I noticed that on overseas hosting sites you can have unlimited websites and only pay for the domain registration ? Is this true ? Locally you seem to have to pay for each and every site ?

How secure is it to host overseas and how of a cost factor is there ? I dont have a credit card and basically hate the idea of credit cards but I do have a paypal account.

I want my sites to load fast or at least reasonable.

What is teh best way to go about this ? I am thinking that I offer the website building as one package with cost's , ie I develop it , build it , publish it etc and the cost's are all inclusive which makes the unlimited hosting sites very attractive. Or do I understand it wrong ?

    Thanks for the Help

I use a local and international hosting provider for all my sites - one provider. You want a reseller account. Local offers less domains, MySQL servers, etc, but it does offer faster updates on server technologies. The internationals seem to be a bit slack in that regard, hence the reason I moved all my domains to South Africa.

I prefer the personal service I get from my provider - they're on the ball. I have some high profile domains registered, and hosted, with me and my major selling point is personal service. It makes a huge difference to the international providers, I get it, I can give it!

If you want, drop me a PM telling me what you want and I will reply forthwith. You can start on a smaller package and we'll upgrade your package without any disruption to existing services at the drop of a hat.

It sounds like you need a starter package with the capacity for 10 domains. I thought I needed all this space, yet it turns out most domains don't need as much as we think and I just keep adding.

I use awardspace- Their most expensive package works out to about R50 a month which is unlimited everything. They have over 1 and a half million customers which must say something.

I think you're missing the point - he wants to provide a hosting service to other people: that needs something other than what you have - dedicated support. You can go GoDaddy, or any other number of hosting providers, but if you don't want to be a number, you choose someone that wants you to succeed!

They have dedicated support? You can even speak to a live consultant via the internet.

Edit: I'll give you this though, a smaller host is often a lot more flexible and will give you that personal attention if that's what you're looking for. I just need something that works and that I can manage myself- For that AS is perfect.

    +1 to Elitehost

A few days ago I posted a thread looking for a new host to use, and I got them, there pretty cheap for what they offer, service is pretty good, servers are fast, and I have had no problems so far.

And the cherry ontop is google actually gives me a higher search rating because its hosted locally, I am loving it :P

Guys, thanks for the help !! I did some more research over the weekend and I must admit that local hosting really came a long way !! I was undecided between Texa and elitehosting !

In the end I decided to go with Elitehosting.co.za for the below reasons.

They cater for my needs a little better as they have what I would call a "light" reseller package. I could easily Justify this as the price of their light package is about the same as what I pay currently for a forum that I host for the last few years at Webafrica. So now I will migrate my current site to elitehost which they will handle for me for free and I have at least 50 domains I can register and 10GB space. This is more than enough for my immediate needs and I can always upgrade as I go along.

The only that I need to figure out still is local vs international reseller account ? International offers twice as much free domains? Whats the biggest diffs ?
