Too late to save 4G?
Will Vodacom market LTE products as fourth generation mobile telecommunications technology?

Should call it LiTE/4G

4G LITE Sounds better. Now am thinking shall we also call baboons human beings ?![]()
Don't eat me. I have a wife and kids. Eat them.
lte is fine.
I dont understand why we HAVE to call it 4G
The Redscum were w@nkers for reporting Cell C. Now we sit with this problem. They can't have it both ways as the ASA already ruled. The problem is, to the ordinary joe 4G is definitely easier to understand. Hence it is a real problem. The same can be said for the tossers who complained about Telkom 384, 1Meg and 4Meg ADSL - which is now idiotically called fast, faster and fastest. Some people don't think long term before they whine.
I'm with AKC on this. Anyway, the only numbers that interest me are found between the "R" and "/Gb"

Just call it LTE.
Why will it make a difference if it has an extra syllable?
We are already accustomed to GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSPA etc...
I believe posters are recognised by their sig... so I made one.
Lol... I like the the way that he can polish a turd....
"we have to call it 4g, because that way people will think it's 4g and we'll make more money".
I find it hard saying "LTE" I sometimes find myself saying/reading "LET" so I agree with the people who suggest it to be called "4G LiTE" / "LiTE 4G" now lets tell the rest of the world.
I done eff'd so many bishies that I can't remember names
But if you put that pu**y right up in my face, I remember
Vodacom is calling it LTE.
But as I said at the conference, we're in the 10% minority (actual numbers - feel welcome to go and browse over 100 network websites - I did) who actually call their LTE network 'LTE'.
The important thing here is that LTE is a brand new technology for South Africa. There is no historic attachment of a term to the technology, so customers can (and should) be exposed to a single term from all operators.
This is very different from the last debacle when a next gen term (4G) was applied to an established technology HSPA) that was already widely deployed for many years as 3G. Selling the same stuff suddenly as the next generation was problematic and consumers would be misled. This was the ASA's view. At that point in time less than 10% (by far) tried to call a HSPA+ network 4G.
This time around it's all new, so we have, as an industry, a chance to do it right.
Unfortunately it seems the rest of the world already shot their load and those who (correctly) call it LTE will be outgunned.
This time around we're going to create customer confusion (by being the minority). Even if we're technically correct.
BTW: Quite like the 4G LiTE idea....Will promptly steal it!!![]()
Instead of hurling insults, help fix the problem.
Come up with a plan where we can get all the manufacturers to relabel their phones and modems as LTE, and I'm all ears. Maybe start with Samsung, so beloved by this forum. As their biggest fanboi base, I'm sure they'll listen to you.
And, while you're at it, get the 100 or so LTE networks around the globe using 4G to rebrand as LTE please.
