Holy crap, is that cheaper than all previously released Windows OS, taking into account inflation?

So I can pay $39.99 for an upgrade to Windows 8 pro even if I had Windows 7 Starter!?? Am I reading it correctly?
If you can read this... you can read.

also thought the new prices seemed low, when i heard about the dollar price last week.
maybe MS have been listening what people have been saying... if u lower your profit, make software a reasonable price, people are more likely to BUY a legit version, than get a pirate copy, and you get no profit at all :-)
I've just bought a few new Win7 pcs 3 weeks ago, so looking at getting at least some of them upgraded with the upgrade offer of R125 for Win8 Pro, already registered, just waiting for release

Thats for the R125 or $14 upgrade offer. He is referring to $40 one in which case he is correct, you can buy Windows 8 pro for $40 if you're upgrading from any prior version of Windows from XP onwards. I believe there is also $60 outright purchase price on Windows.com, no need to upgrade from anything. Still cheap though.

For a moment there I thought you were talking about the estimated price of the Surface tablet in SA.

Quite frankly, I don't see why anybody needs to upgrade to Win8. Rather just buy products with Win8 preinstalled.

Lets hope your next article on Windows / Microsoft will be on local pricing for the Surface or other tablets or other Win8/WP8 devices. Info on local pricing for the Surface would be really nice.

The best thing about the release of Windows 8 is that Windows 7 will become cheaper.

So you want people to buy a new PC just to get Win8?! - that's madness.

I dont see why everyone shouldn't upgrade to Win8 - its def worth upgrading to.

This lets users of Windows XP, Vista, or 7 upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99.
That sounds like a bargain - I'm sure everyone has a XP key lying around

Or not... Remember that time when XP cost more than Windows 7

jip $40 price sounds real good for us who have (not so old) home computers running Win7... with good internet you wouldnt need to get the DVD from Inc Connection with the added cost :-)

i recently looked at the cost of buying MS Office 2010 license online, but it didnt seem much cheaper than buying the standard DVD pack in the stores.... this Win8 offer looks much better

Good price.Might buy my first ever legit windows OS. Oooops... will buy. And, in other news..

highly dependent on a variety of external factors such as the exchange rate.
The obligatory South African disclaimer for product pricing: "We reserve the right to ask to you lube, bend over...."

I would upgrade at that price... but will wait a few weeks for extensive community feedback before taking the plunge. But really looking forward to Win8+SSD=Profit
