Cool Estimated Telkom time for the whole August upgrade story

    Hey Chaps

    whats happening ?

i saw yesterday(nothing new) on the telkcr#p webiste that the 192k adsl lines are been ruled out to input 384k as entry level and they would convert the exchange to the next level for 192 user beggining of august (they say) , Was wondering what the timeframe would be for this free upgrade ? 1 years ? 2 years never ? LOL

Knowing telkom it would not be any time soon in the next year or so
any ideas ? Would be even cooler if they dropped the line rental too

    oh well

I phoned 10219 and spoke to Dane who told me that on 1 August all 192K lines would change to 384K. Have to be honest and say I do find that hard to believe as I have always been led to believe that it is a bit of a process to change line speeds.

Well, I will wait and see.....

Hot off the press! Telkom reduces its DSL access prices from 1 August 2006.

The price reductions are valid from 1 August 2006.

Access Services Current New As of 1 August '06
    HomeDSL 192 R 270 R 245
    HomeDSL 384 R 359 R 245
    BusinessDSL 384 N/A R 245
    HomeDSL 512 R 477 R 362
    BusinessDSL 512 R 477 R 362
    HomeDSL 1024 R 680 R 516
    BusinessDSL 1024 R 680 R 516

    DSL installation - R437.50

    Prices are VAT incl.

Business customers can now also subscribe to DSL 384 at only R245.00 p/m!

Please note! Existing HomeDSL 192 customers will automatically be upgraded to the 384 DSL service as the 384 service will become Telkom's entry level ADSL offering. Customers who are unable to connect (sync) at 384 Kbps due to factors such as line length or quality will be accommodated down from 384 Kbps in 64 Kbps decrements, but not lower than 192 Kbps, until the service connects (sync's successfully).

I doubt that ... they say they will phase them out, that sounds like a long process, not a flip of a switch or something ... I presume that you will have to phone them 100 times before they do it ... I don't care anyway, with this ridiculous cap, one can hardly use the net for something that need higher speed than 192 kbps anyway

does anyone know the process telkom goes through to upgrade line speed?
I mean do they just change a value in a database or does a techie have to manually change something at the exchange?
