    Default iPad Mini reviews roll-in

Reviewers don't review like they used to before money, site visits and likability came into play.

Both Mossberg and New York Times columnist David Pogue offered kudos for cramming most of its full-sized cousin’s functions onto a smaller device, as advertised.
I don't get this, Why are they impressed that apple was able to put the same Ipad features into a smaller ipad? Does the Iphone not have all the functionality of an IPad and the Iphone is smaller than the Ipad Mini?

What a pathetic kneejerk reaction that was. Yes hamster everyone in the tech media is sold out to Apple and devoid of objectivity. Every positive review that comes in can therefore be dismissed out of hand, unless it's for any non-Apple device in which case reviewers are finally starting to see sense.

And above all, it offers that colossal app catalog, which Android tablet owners can only dream about.
Wait, what? I was under the impression that Android has a "colossal app catalog" as well... Certainly I have always found an app for what I wanted to do.... Unless Apple has apps for stuff I didn't even know I wanted to do...

I think he meant there are more dedicated tablet apps on the apple app store.

No, same applies for Andriod/MS products to. Becoming harder and harder to trust previews and reviews these days on pretty much anything actually...

I think the important word in that review is "refined". That is where the money is going and Apple have been very clever to retain an up-market construction and finish to the Mini-iPad. Specs do not mean much to the average user and few would be able to tell the difference between a retina display and what is offered now. I went to a demo of the iPad in 2010 and the demonstrator was asked for the resolution of the screen. His answer was that it was sufficient. There is a large segment of the tablet user population who would rather pay extra for a product that exhibits obvious manufacturing quality and has a feel good appeal.

No, it really isn't. There is no bought and sold media out there. Just a bunch of critics whose opinions tally with your own to varying degrees, and an aggregate of opinions that can probably be considered roughly reliable. The minute you start seeing bias everywhere, it's a fair chance that you're the one who's become biased.

I wonder if they have an App for stealing and registering prior art patents, like the bounce back one ?

But let's face it, Apple have been very successful with their underhanded legal maneuvers, they used all of these to block the Samsung P6800 7.7" 3G tablet in the EU, until they were stopped by the UK high court. But they were successful in the sense that the P6800 has lost all momentum and is effectively dead. Samsung should refresh it, but whether they will is another matter.

The P6800 tablet is the closest competitor to the iPad Mini, with a 7.7" Super AMOLED display with a 1280x800 resolution, much better than the Mini, even though it came out almost a year ago.

BTW, there is a big difference between a 7" tablet like the Nexus 7, and a 7.7" tablet, like the P6800, even though it does not sound like much. I find the 7" tablet displays just a little bit too small.

Having used a P6800, and a Nexus 7, the iPad Mini screen resolution is just too low to make it a competitor.

“But the iPad Mini is a far classier, more attractive, thinner machine. It has two cameras instead of one. Its fit and finish are far more refined. And above all, it offers that colossal app catalog, which Android tablet owners can only dream about.”
All these points are true, I will admit, but the above language is PR not a review. The only point I would like to make here is that it sucks to have to loose faith in tech reviewers. This applies to reviews of all platforms. Pretty lame.

I don't see too many user complaints about these devices though, everyone seems pretty happy with the current generation of gadgets from all the providers.... could be we've just hit the golden age of gadgets.

Well, I had two Android tablets before the iPad3. I really sukkeled to find decent apps for them. I ended up with a handful of go-to primaries like Mantano which is excellent, the Google apps, a few games, some alternate launchers and widgets and sundry customisation type things, and then I sort of petered out. On the iPad I've got folders stuffed with apps and some of them I'll probably never get around to using adequately.

I think it is a nice toy. it will give the eReaders market a good bit of competition seeing as though it competes with that segment. The only use I can see for an iPad mini is that if you travel a lot, then you can read and watch on the iPad mini and not flatten your phone battery and because it is smaller than the iPad you can carry it around easier.

I must agree with other's that more and more of these tech reviews seem to be written by the companies who are launching the products that the article is supposed to be reviewing. It seems to be more of an advertorial than an actual review.
