    Not quite so straight forward.

32inch is the diagonal measurement(from a top corner to the opposite bottom corner)

At 2.54 cm in a inch its 81.28cm diagonally.

To work out the height and width I would need to know what aspect ratio the tv is.

The screen area should be about:
    Width 70.84cm
    Height 39.85cm

If you are trying to see if it would fit you need to add space for the bevel around the tv.

Thanks for that. The bevel should be in the region 5cms or less, right?

And one more question related to size; The TV will be going into a bedroom and used mostly in the evenings (dark lighting), would a 40 inch TV be overkill? It will be about 2 metres away from the bed.

It's easy to calculate the screen size, but the bezels differ, as well as the height of stands, etc. To get the actual size you're better off looking up the specific model's specs on the manufacturer's website.

Maybe this will help you. Remember, this is just the actual screen size. You need to allow for the stand etc.

We had our 32cm in the room and it was perfect, friends have their 42cm in their room and it feels a bit odd. Would say it all depends on personal preference. What you could do is make a paper cutout of the physical TV in dimensions and place it against the wall as this will give you an idea of the amount of wall space it will use.

Go for the 40" but be sure to get a Samsung/LG with higher Mhz and a good picture otherwise you will notice the pixles

I'm worried I blind myself with too big a TV in the room, hah.

And I'm ahead of you, I've got a whiteboard in my office and I've drawn the screen on there based on Beachless' dimensions.

Naa, wont be to big you will get used to it quickly.

I also have a 32 in the bedroom and a 51 in the lounge, I'm contemplating moving the 51 to the bedroom and getting a 60 for the lounge.
