Default How to Update Samsung Galaxy S1 GT 19000?

    Hi there

Im helping a friend update the software on the galaxy s1. The reason we are doing the update, is because of recent software crashes. Im not to clued up on android, so any help would be great.

First thing we tried was through samsung kies, but the phone has connection problems through usb and I was reluctent to do a software update through kies due to this.

The second and only other option to update the software is throught FOTA. When we try this, there is no update available.
The phone has Android froyo, and was bought from and stil running with Vodacom.

Take it to a Vodacare & ask them to update it.

You are the product of 4 billion years of evolution. Start acting like it.

My SO still has her S1 and I updated it to 2.6? or something via Odin. Last time we tried to update via KIES she had the latest version (2.3 I think) and ICS was out at that stage.

    Google is your friend, friend.

I was running DarkyROM (Gingerbread) until recently and kept experiencing major issues a while after booting. It was sluggish and apps often closed/crashed.

Since changing and updating to CyanogenMod 10 (JellyBean) it's like a brand-new phone. Smooth as silk and looks great... I can definitely recommend this route.

I'm sure you'll find guides for rooting/flashing firmware around the forum if you choose this option.

The screen on this phone got smashed when it was still new. Got sent in to vodacare, and returned without a battery . Would vodacare charge to do an update on a phone out of warranty?
