Thumbs up Virgin Mobile GPRS Speeds

I'm in Ceres at the moment with my wife. I quickly had a look at MYADSL to see what's new.

I'm amazed to see that I get speeds of up to 84kbit/s (10.5kBytes/s) in Ceres. To my knowledge there's definitely no EDGE coverage in Ceres and my Jasjar only have GPRS and 3G.

Virgin Mobile's GPRS speeds are excellent.

What speeds do you guys usually get with Virgin Mobile GPRS? And where do you get those speeds?

Today I'm back home in Brackenfell. GPRS and EDGE Coverage but I'm only getting a maximum of 46.9kb/s (5.8kBytes/s) on my MTN connection. Virgin Mobile just stays the best option if you don't need 3G/HSDPA.

I get about the same speed on MTN with the phone as a modem. When I use the datacard I get about 7 to 9 (and upto 11) kBytes/s

with VM I get much faster speeds but depending on network - how busy

    Default GPRS or EDGE ...

    Hi guys

I just got my Sony Ericcson GC85 data card, using VirginMobile.

According to GamCo speed test, Im getting 50kbps -> 80kbps !

    How can I be getting 80kbps ??

I think the coverage is only GRPS here, and no EDGE, but GPRS doesnt go up to 80kbps does it? Hmm..

PS: How will I know when I have EDGE signal? This Sony Ericcson software just says GPRS.. nothing about EDGE anywhere. Where should I be looking?

    Thanks guys (and girls)

My i-Mate Jasjar only have GPRS and 3G, NO EDGE. I sometimes get 130kb/s. Yes, I know, it is impossible but I've tested it a few times and that is the true speed. Most of the time I get about 70-90kb/s.
