New Defy oven top element not getting hot

Hi all

I recently purchased a new defy 600u slimline. It looked simple enough to install most of the wires were push ins and the live, neutral and earth were already installed from the previous oven.

So after connecting it up , all the stove plates work as well as the bake element. however the top element only gets warm, not hot.

Any suggestion of what I should check?

Tell defy to take it away and give you a new one.

Wont they tell me it needed to be installed by a licensed electrician? I'm trying to fix the problem.
I'm suspecting something to do with the wiring as the grill feature which has to do with the top element is working

Does the element work in Grill mode?

Was all the internal wiring already connected up or did you have to connect that too?

The element works in grill mode. all internal wiring was connected . I just had to connect the stove to the mains and the plates to the push in connectors on the oven

my oven does not use the grill element at all in bake mode.... maybe yours is the same?

There's 4 options:
grill, which works.
bake with bottom element only. which works.
bake with both elements . only bottom element gets hot, top one gets warm
bake with top element. only gets warm not hot

Is it a one part or two part top element? Maybe the grill portion of it is ok but the bake portion is faulty?

Grill element does not come on unless knob is set to 'grill', this is on a Defy Thermofan. Anything below grill uses only the rear element.

Hmm not sure. Will have to check that when I get home

I don't have a thermofan. I think the thermofan blows the hot air around so you dont need top element.
In my case theres an option to bake with top element only which only makes warm
