So I got my Iphone 5 today - awesome, but within the first hour I noticed as if something is loose inside of it. I googled it and apparently on some units the battery is not glued on properly. Now in America you can simply take the phone to a apple store and they will glue it for you, but what is the procedure here in SA? Can our apple stores facilitate such a operation or do I need to take it to Vodacom? I really dont want to be without a phone for weeks just because they need to glue the battery, then I would rather just live with it. Any Suggestions?

I believe Vodacom should replace the phone on the spot if you take it back in under 7 days.
So I went today to the Cellucity where I upgraded, the guy told me that they will have to send the phone away for 15 working days to evaluate whether I qualify for a repair/replacement. I told him about the 7 day OBF clause and still he said they have to send the phone away, so I ask him if I can have a replacement phone in the mean time and he says no. I can't really put my Micro Sim into anything else than a Iphone 5 and cant be without a phone for 3 weeks so I left and went to the vodacom shop.

There I was told that it would take 3 days so evaluate and I would have a new phone within a week. Still no word on a replacement phone. Unfortunately I forgot the slip of my upgrade charges which I apparently needed to prove that I upgraded on Saturday. So I will be going back tomorrow and see what happens then.

Urgh - I hate all of them - something similar - blah, blah, 15 working days, blah, blah, specialist facilities in Jhb with clean room nano particle extraction filters, blah, blah (how do they come up with this schit) I ended up going to digicape, paid R250 for evaluation and my insurance replaced it.

Apple (core) support in SA is atrocious.

I spoke to a contact at Cellucity and he responded with the following:
if faulty within the first 7 days, client is entitled to a new unit, subject to the following:

- phone is returned within the first 7 days purchase in its original physical condition, box, charger, cables, box inner etc etc

- phone is then immediately couriered to ARC (advanced repair centre) in JHB for a more in detailed accessment. Water damage

- if the OBF criteria is met, Vodacom will authorize us to issue client with a new phone

- process takes around 7-10 days, worst case scenario

He said that if you email your details to info(at)cellucity.co.za he will escalate it.

Plenty iPhones rattle. Think it has to do with the camera lens. My 4S and both 5's rattle when the phone is tapped near the camera section.

Rep at the iStore demonstrated that his iPhone 4S and numerous others did it as well when I wanted a replacement 4S. It is not a big deal.

Iphone does not qualify for OBF like the other handsets. This is stipulated on the upgrade quotes. It also only has a 1 year warranty as apposed to a 2 year warranty like the others. If a Iphone goes faulty within the 1 year warranty and there is no user damage it will be replaced by Vodacare with a unit in non commercial packaging. This is also detailed on the upgrade quote.

If Cellucity is trying to push through a OBF then lets hope they get it right for you then.

I am aware of the camera rattle. This is a loose battery

Ok just for those who want a update. I took the phone to Cellucity on Thursday and they booked in the OBF. Still waiting to hear from them, will keep updated.

What a joke. I would not accept this and would cancel the contract based on this.
If its a fight they want, a fight is what they will get. Let it go legal, if you indeed did not damage it

Yeah it is, unfortunately the problem lies with Apple's manufacturing and not with Cellucity. Anyway I called today and I can come and get a new one, so I will be going this afternoon. It took 7days which I think is fair so I can't complain.

The problem is the Core Group's refusal to offer Apple Care to iPhones not purchased by an iStore.

In the States as long as you are within a certain period Apple Care can be bolted onto any Apple device regardless of where it was purchased.

It makes a huge difference as it is walk in and walk out.
