Thread: Vodacom contract customer for 6 years

Default Vodacom contract customer for 6 years

    1.
My wife has a Samsung Z540 and although she has had it for 3 months it is still not supported by Vodacom. I was told by Vodacom support that the phone was still in testing and the network would be up dated soon – this was shortly after she got the phone.

The call package that best suits my calling patterns is a weekender. However, the phone best suited to my business needs, which is the dominant deciding factor for me, is one with substantial pda capabilities as well as high speed internet access. The phone therefore would be a Nokia N80. The only problem is that Vodacom does not cater for this combination. Depending on service provider I have been quoted an excess payment of R1800 to R2500. Why is it then that new Vodacom customers going to Vodaworld can get the phone free on the weekender contract? Similarly, MTN offers the phone free on its comparable contract.

Since my contract ends next month and MNP comes in next month, I will be moving to MTN and taking my six year old 082 number with me, unless of course Vodacom addresses these issues in a reasonable manner.

RHT, I'm sorry to tell you - it there is no "better connection".

I've had an N80 on order with MTN since the 2nd of August. They do not have them. They do not know when they are getting them. So yes, vodacom is charging R1839 for the phone on Talk100 or 200, but at least they have stock. Vodaworld has the phone on special for free on a weekender plus, but I need to keep my MTN number for personal reasons.

I've got this eery feeling MTN just gave out some N80's at a good price to attract hype, but now "won't" have stock until 1 september, when they can bring out their own new pricelist with a massive cash charge for the phone on contract.

Everyone threatens with this MNP rubbish. I've got contracts on Cell-C (the worst) and Vodacom and MTN. There are MTN people threatening to switch, there are voda poeple threatening to switch. They are BOTH equally bad. Sad...but true.

    Hi

1.The Z540 is supported by Vodacom , what problems are you experiencing with the phone AND NETWORK

    2. The deals offered at Vodaworld , Midrand ,are deals where the respective companies have decided to subsidise the handset over and above the subsidies which Vodacom provides .

You might find that the competition offers better deals , however Vodacom has always offered excellent customer service levels , mistakes are generally corrected in a very short period .

I will get the specific error message tonight for the Z450 and post it tomorrow. As for the N80 and service issue I really don’t think the problem is with deals or the like, in general my view of Vodacom is particularly positive, which is saying a lot since I except to get good value for money and have thus far. The thing is that over the last year or so my needs have changed specifically around how and when I call and even more so for what I want out of my handset and I don’t think that this combination is being adequately catered for.

Any case, thanks for the response and I will post that error tomorrow.
    Cheers.

I agree that there's probably not one network that is always better.

At least with MNP you're not stuck with a choice that was right for you X years ago. You can shop around for the deal that is best for you and your circumstances now.

Hopefully, the networks wake up and realise that they are not guaranteed my business until one of us dies, and that they have to compete for it.

Well I just got a call from Vodacom on both issues. My initial query about the phone (Z450) not being supported was on the 14th of June, since then it appears that this has been attended to. I will go and check it out of course. As for the current problem, they recommend that I contact Mxit since this is were I picked it up. Basically I am able to download the programme, but when I register it boms out. On Mxit’s website it instructs me to obtain my grps settings from my service provider, which does not work. According to Vodacom help desk though this is not relevant since the phone comes with the settings pre-installed.

As for the N80, they can’t help since Autopage is my SP and I will have to contact their retentions division. (Think I’ll have any luck?)

Any case, thank Vodacom for the honest response.

W.R.T. to Mxit , it is not only GPRS settings , i am aware that on certain phones some other configurations are also required , ie , on some nokia's Access Pionts have to be specified on the phone

hhmmm...well the high price of the N80 has been around for a while. I have asked Vodacom about this and have not had any answers. I wont comment any further but just point you to some other threads where this has already been discussed. Read away
Which new cell phone to get??
    Nokie N80
    N80 on Vodacom (PRICE!!!)

The comment about Vodacom having good support and customer service is also seriously debatable. You just have to read this sub-forum and the Vodacom sub-forum to know there are many people that are not satisfied with their support or service.
Here is but one such thread in this very sub-forum: Ridiculous Vodacom 'Service'
What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.

Thanks and yes I have actually read those threads, but I am of course only talking about my own experiences. The guy who phoned me, as far as I could see, really tried to be helpful.

As for Autopage’s retention division, could anybody maybe give me an e-mail address?
    Cheers
