    Default Samoosa recipe

I have the craziest craving for samoosas like we had them in SA.

Please send me your favourite samoosa recipes so that I can experience the magic here once again.

Also, finding the right spices here can be a real pain in the butt, so please dont refer to brand names of stuff as I'll be heading off to a specialised food market here and will need to work with spice names vs. SA food brand names.

(as a side topic, how annoying is it when online recipes refer to brand name stuff? )

    much appreciated

Surely there are a fair number of Indian food establishments in the Netherlands? In which city/town are you? I remember Amsterdam has its fair share.

Or do you have the desire for home cooking?

Don't forget the spices here in SA used for Durban curries are not necessarily of Indian origin. I think OP is looking for the "durban taste" in his samoosas

    Yes, indeed.

I can get Indian food/food stuffs here but a) it's never hot enough, b) I like cooking & c) it's not the same as the stuff back in SA. Good in its own way, just different from what I grew up with.

So I'm keen to try my hand at it at home.

If the Indian food there is not the same, it must mean that you are craving Durban style food!

Why do you not just import the spices you want if the ones over there are not to your liking.

You implied that their spices are/taste different .... so even if you have a recipe from SA, it won't taste the same cos the ingredients are not he same.

I order curry spices in packs, but they arent suitable for samoosas. And it would be far more convenient to find local products that can be combined to bring me as close as can be expected to the taste I am familiar with.

Did a Cape Malay cooking course and this is what I use for my samoosa:

    Cheese filling
    1 cup grated cheese
    2 onions chopped
    1 tspn barbeque spice

    Chicken filling Method
    2 onions
    1/2 tspn turmeric
    1 tspn masala
    1 tspn coriander
    salt for taste
Character is how you treat those that can do nothing for you.

Yes, thanks for that. I was hoping to get some insider tricks from those who've made them before or have some experienced tips to pass on.

Dry/ground or fresh? I'm assuming dry...
