Thread: BMW 320d E90 2010 vs VW Jetta 2.0 TDi 2010

  1. #1

    Default BMW 320d E90 2010 vs VW Jetta 2.0 TDi 2010

I'm almost scared to post this, reading other threads BMW drivers hate VWs. Everyone else hates BMW drivers. Eish.

Is there anyone out there that has experience with both these and can compare them?? I'm looking for something more fuel economic, but not too pricey and in the Sportsline range. Please don't start suggestiong the Kia Rio, I think they are ugly.

So I'm looking for something that is
    - overall economic (budget around R200k), services not too expensive or still within service plan
    - fuel economy
    - Not older than 2010
    - Nice enough to want to be seen in
    - Comfortable

Any suggestions and if you have some links??

    BMW.

With that out the way, just do your sums and make sure you can afford it.
If you are buying a 3 year old TDi with only a year or so left on Maintenance on a 5 year HP you are looking for trouble unless you have 30k on standby for when something small breaks on the BM.

I don't agree. It certainly isn't as nice as the BMW, but the price on the BM and the high maintenance cost??

The maintenance is not too bad hey.
The BMW I drive is still under the motorplan but I can see the prices of everything they replace.
The Merc however is out of the motorplan and the parts aren't overly expensive either.

I'd also hate a BMW driver if I didn't drive one. They drive ...
Not sure who said BMW drivers hate VW's but ok.

No maybe I phrased that wrong, they don't hate VW drivers, just the VW cars, it seems. They think they are boring. Personally the insides of the 2 look similar to me, the fuel consumption on the VW Jetta is better and they seem to keep their value better.
I currently drive a Merc out of motorplan and everything are VERY expensive and it guzzles fuel

A few auctions happening this coming weekend. Bank repossessions, fleet, etc will be attending quiet a few to see if I can find a bargain with motorplan, also looking to spend R200 K, a friend bought a BMW for R150 K that retails for R400 K.

Irrelevant; the OP is looking at a 2010 model, which will most likely be a Jetta 5.

I still don't know why VW ditched the LED tail, brake and indicator lights on the Jetta 5 for 'old school' incandescent lightbulbs on the Jetta 6.

Cost cutting, if I'm not mistaken. I agree, it's pretty

We went to test drive a VW Jetta and a 2009 BMW 320d and we ended up buying??????

A 2012 BMW 320d for double as much as we wanted to spend, but oh so sexy!!

Traded in the Merc for a BMW, now my driving style can finally match my car LOL
