Question We will run Unisa into the ground

    http://www.citizen.co.za/citizen/con...round%E2%80%99

It is clear the University wants to remove blacks from Unisa because it is mostly black students who attend lectures on campus, Solly Nkune said.

WE will run this university into the ground if we have to, Solly Nkune, secretary of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of South Africa (Unisa), warned yesterday.

Angry students gathered outside the gates to the Sunnyside campus during the third day of a wage strike by Unisa workers.

Students added their voices to those of the hundreds of angry workers by expressing their dissatisfaction with the universitys planned implementation of an e-learning system, with the effect that all study material will be transferred onto the Internet.

It is clear that the university wants to remove blacks from Unisa because it is mostly black students who attend lectures on campus, Nkune said.

They want to send us back to our villages.

Devotion Nyathi, one of the students that gathered outside the entrance, said transferring all the study material online would not only be costly to students, but impractical.

There is already limited space in the study halls, if we are going to need computers to do all our assignments they will have to make space for more computers.

University spokesman Martin Ramotshela said the e-learning system will be introduced in phases up until 2018, involving the retraining of staff.

He stressed that there would be no job losses.

The students yesterday drafted a memorandum which they handed over to the university, demanding, among other things, the extension of the date exams are set to start because of the disruption in their studies.

The university should also be held accountable for any injuries students sustain due to the strike, Nkune said.

The university is studying the memorandum and will respond accordingly, Ramotshela said.

Go ahead and run it into the ground - who needs education.

How the hell do people like Solly Nkune become president of the SRC? It's Malema politics in action.

He wants to destroy the very place trying to make it more accessible for and cheaper for him to learn, by making the incredibly racist assumption that the internet is only for anyone not black. He doesn't understand what a phased rollout is, nor does he understand the investment the university is making in infrastructure to cater for the change.

What a moron. Really, and truly, he is! He's simply making noise to remain relevant. Clearly he has political aspirations...
Internet the way it was meant to be. Launch details will become Crystal Clear very soon...

Well, they're right in a way. The UNISA sites are down more often than up, so either they run UNISA into the ground by implementing this e-learning bull****, or the staff runs it into the ground.

I can understand their frustration, not a lot of people have access to the internet. If only this damn government can see the importance of the internet. Everyone could start getting their study material in time through my unisa etc

I don't understand this, the train is late, lets burn the station. It's as if they can't put two and two together. Unisa is the only way many people can get extra eduction. It's bloody selfish.

Unisa though has been implementing many cost cutting measures lately. Like closing their call centre. Seems to be getting worse.
