Hi

Ordered my Roku 3 from Amazon a few days ago. Just wanted to find out how I go about creating a Roku account. It asks you for a credit card to add to your account. Will this accept a South African credit card and address or do you have to do some smoke and mirrors to get by this.

Please could somebody who has the Roku 3 give me some pointers on how I go about this. Thanks

I used a stock ZA credit card and it all worked fine. Just follow the instructions on the website and the roku itself to activate the account.

Quite painless.

Of course, not all the content services such as Hulu are available in South Africa.

Well it did not accept my credit cards. Not even the Amex that Netflix accepts. I had to buy a Entropay prepaid card and use that.
Also remember in Entropay to set a US post code or it wont work.
Seems to be hit and miss though with local Credit Cards.

I signed up with a "local" CC as well. Just remember that the only reason they ask for the CC details is if you buy something from the Roku Store.

You do need to create the account to link that to your Roku 3 unit. If I remember correctly it will generate a code which will link your account to your Roku 3.

I have done this a few times in the beginning - pretty straight forward though. . .

Thanks all

I will give it a go when I get my Roku 3 in a week or 2. I have an FNB credit card so hope it works.

Roku will accept credit cards from any country. However, to get US content on your Roku you will need a us IP address when you register. I used a router from netglobaltv.com which gives you a US ip address on any wifi device in your home

Spam much?

Got my Roku 3 on Friday, that was 7 days from order at Amazon, WOW that to me is amazing. Setup Roku account with FNB cc no problem. Have also setup plex which works a treat.

Congrats dude.
Did you setup your Roku account as a USA based one?

Yes, I also setup a trial with unotelly just need to do netflix now not sure if that will work with SA credit card?

I could not get it to work with my FNB cheque card so used my wife's Standard Bank Credit Card which worked fine.
Hulu+ I got working with my ABSA card. Just make sure you use a USA postal code that contains the numbers of the postal code linked to your credit card and all is good.

How did you find the post code that matches yours, US must have a few codes then, don't there codes have 5 digits do you only match the last 4 or what?? Thanks for the tips:-)

My CC is at ABSA Edenvale with a postal code 1610. I googled "usa postal code 1610". The very first link took me to http://www.zipcodecountry.com/usapostalcode/69125-1610,Nebraska(NE),USA which is US Postal Code 69125-1610. I punched this whole number into Hulu+ and it accepted it and took $1 off my account. Sorted.

Had a bit of a ball-ache with this myself, having gotten my roku3 last week. Sorted it out with a virtual card from Entropay.

Hi

I also got my Roku 3 from Amazon (glad I remembered I needed to use a step down transformer before I blew it...) anyway, my struggle was not getting it or paying for a subscription with Netflix (I used entropay) I struggled with hiding my dns and changing my VPN in order to be able to use Netflix (and other channels) the only way I could get things to finally work was by subscribing to "hidemyass" and using my laptop as a "tunnel" between my Roku and my router (the Roku is wired to the laptop and the laptop connects wirelessly with the router) anyway this setup is rather complicated and apparently my router (dlink dir-655) cannot be modified to allow PVN changes/hiding. Is there any other way you can suggest i can have a more user friendly setup?

Don't need a step down. Supports 120v to 240v. Just labelled wrong.

There is a thread here discussing this and someone tested it. All good.
