Default Macbook Pro DVI -> LG LCD TV DVI?!?!

Ok guys, I just can't seem to get this to work.

Cable pluggeb into the MBP's DVI port, other end of the cable plugged into a LG LCD TV's DVI port. When I go through the options on the LG, it doesn't seem to pick up the MBP feed ("No PC connected")

I have tried everything I can think of, but still nothing. Am I missing something that I am supposed to do to get it to work (FN F7 just changes my LCD panel's resolution, nothing else). Oh, and the TV indicates it is going into Display Power Management mode, so it is definitely not getting signal

    Thanks

Have you tried closing the cover and using an external keyboard/mouse? Or even a restart with the tv connected?

How about trying it with a VGA cable?

Haven't come across this before. Why not check this as a long shot.
Are you sure that you're using the right DVI cable? The MBP should handle most situations, but you should check that the MBP DVI out, the cable and LCD DVI in are compatible. If you've got a DVI-I cable you should not have any problems.

BTW when you mirror displays on the MBP it changes the resolution on the builtin display to match that of the external display. So in your case the monitor resolution should change to 1366x768 (?). Also AFAIK the F7 functions only work when an external display is detected.
Seems dumb to ask but have you checked in Display preferences that you're outputing a resolution that the LG does not support?

When I hook my 15" up to an external monitor, all I have to do is go to system preferences to choose if i want to mirror the desktop since it defaults to the extended desktop view.

Still looking for my VGA adapter, and I think the cable is going to be a bit too short (LCD is wall mounted in our bedroom)

EDIT: The LCD doesn't have a VGA port, so I'll have to try on a different unit

Funny thing is, as soon as I disconnect either side of the DVI cable, the MBP screen goes blank for like 2 seconds, so there is definitely some "feed" somewhere, but it doesn't pick up the LCD

Why all the effort? It's not like you'll be having it for much longer

the display device probably doesnt have complete edid information. So although it is plugged in, your mac doesnt see any suitable resolutions it can use, or the mac doesnt see any display there at all.

from wiki: Mac OS X natively reads EDID information (see /var/log/system.log or hold down Cmd-V on startup) and programs such as SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX can display the information as well as use it to define custom resolutions.

Yeah, I know, but it being a public holiday we wanted to stay in bed and watch Friends DVDs. With the MBP hooked up to the LCD directly, I can watch without having to run downstairs to turn over or replace the disks ... Ah well, day is almost over in any case

By 'we' I'm hoping you're not referring to yourself and the MBP.

It's a nice laptop but at the end of the day thats all it is ok?

What do you mean "thats all it is"? What's wrong with you?!

Ok, by "we" I was referring to myself and my wife (little one was spending the day with his grandparents)
