Thread: Processers

    Default Processers

Want to get a new HP. Of these two, Intel(R) Core(TM) Solo processor T1350 (1.86 GHz) and Intel(R) Celeron(R) M Processor 430 (1.73 GHz), which do you recomend?

    Thanks,
    Korn

And pray the HP doesn't break and you have to deal with their support. They took 5 weeks to fix mine (it just died for no reason), blew two motherboards before getting it right, managed to break the DVD drive and hard drive in the process, lost some of the screws, and spilled something sticky on it.

Since I got it back I cannot switch it on with the power plugged in (I have to switch on, then plug in), bluetooth doesn't work (it did before) and USB keeps losing power, i.e. stuff like mouse and earphones just dies, but ext. hard drive with own power source still works.

What's worse is they boobytrapped it so it will only work with the exact model hard disc it came with (80GB seagate with HP-modified firmware), which costs over R2500 ex vat. If you put something else in, DMA gets hard disabled. You can also not replace the mini-PCI wireless network card. Should you try that, the notebook doesn't even POST. Not that there's anything wrong with the included device, it's a Broadcom 54mbit, performs very well, has good range. But I happen to have a dual band 108mbit mini-PCI card that I wanted to put in. Didn't work. Now here's the kicker. Bought an HP branded Intel card (at twice what it should cost, of course), put that it - still the same problem. Switch it on and all you get is this little error message telling you to piss off.

My next notebook wil most certainly not be an HP.

That's what I'm trying. But the fact that the notebook does work at all doesn't help me much at the moment, and I can't really afford not to have it working.
