Yes, 3G isn't hard limited to 384k, I believe it is a high average that service is delivered at.

The 384Kb/s is actually a hard limit, dictated by the network equipment. If you see numbers exceeding 384 it's one of the following:

    1) Inaccurate measurement by the OS based tools. Basically how the speed is measured is by a comms layer process that counts the number of bytes coming in. By taking a delta over a known time period (say a second), you can calculate the throughput. This works most of the time. Sometimes the period is shorter or longer and this skews the results.

The longer the measurement period (say 30 minutes) the more accurate the result, so watch out for funny looking spikes and discard them.

    2) Caching by your PC. Check that the file you're downloading is not already cached. If so, the results will normally be completely wrong, as in TB/s!

    3) Compression on the network. We do have this capability and with it on, I've seen >500Kb/s. Currently it's off.

Ok, my bad... wasn't aware that it was hard limited.

I suppose the speeds are pretty consistant though... The results of this thread indicate that you'll probably be running between 280k and 384k (If you've got semi decent cell signal). That's more than acceptable to me; now if we can only get the understandably high costs of bandwidth down!

What I dont get is this... Its suppose to be 384kbps limit. Yes, when I download a file I get about 30-40kb per second. So thats normal.

The second I launch getright, and do segmented downloading (4 segments) I get about 120kb per second.

    Thats 1MB every 8.5 seconds.

How does that work, I thought 3G cant do that
