Lightbulb CRICKET: Lets choose our best team

C'mon guys and gals, we all have our opinions so lets play selector and put out our strongest 11! Ignore quotas and such and just choose the best to even take on the Ausies. To start off, here goes mine:

    1) Boeta Dippie
    2) AB
    3) Kallis
    4) Vaughn v/Jaarsveld
    5) Kemp
    6) Bouch (capt)
    7) Polly
    8) Johan Botha (spinner)
    9) Nel
    10) Ntini
    11) Morne Morkel

    Fringe players:
    12) Morne van Wyk
    13) JP Dumminy
    14) Con de Lange (spinner)
    15) Alfonso Thomas

If we don't play the spinner I would play JP at 5 and move everyone down. So what's your selections?

Amla should definately be there... and prince? cant believe you guys can forget already that hes the only one whos actually batted in this test match.
R u ppl really that fickle i mean he hasnt even got out yet.... Im not a fan of prince (esp in ODI's) but i think in test matches he has something to offer. I think the teams batting isnt too bad at the moment, maybe a change in the order. Prince at 3, amla at 5. Maybe dippenar for gibbs until gibbs get back into form.. I also think Smith deserves a break, but then hes captain so its not as easy...

smith and gibbs need to be dropped,if the are actually in bad patch then why play players that are struggling? maybe some domestic cricket for gibbs and smith,AB and Dippie should be opening at this current point.

Yeah, but the difference is that if you've got red hair it must be a relief to finally start going bald.

    The team should be:
    1.Smith - captain
    2.Gibbs
    3.AB
    4.Kallis
    5.Rudolph
    6.Boucher
    7.Kemp
    8.Pollock
    9.Ntini
    10.Steyn
    11.Nel

Stick with traditional SA selections, put the spinner as the 12th man, don't play him, just let him warm the bench and deliver drinks. (no wonder boje retired)

    My ODI team:
    ===============================================
    1. Gibbs
    2. AB
    3. Smith (If the pitch is good, move Kemp up to 3)
    4. Kallis
    5. Boucher
    6. Prince
    7. Boucher
    8. Pollock
    9. Kemp
    10. Botha (or if all pace Steyn)
    11. Ntini
    12th Botha/Steyn

Gives us big hitters balanced with an all round bowling attack + stability in the middle order. Also, the fielding provided by Gibbs, Smith and AB can win matches.

    My Test Team:
    ===============================================
    1. AB or Amla. depending on form
    2. Gibbs
    3. Kallis
    4. Smith
    5. Pollock
    6. Prince
    7. Boucher
    8. Botha
    9. Steyn
    10. Ntini
    11. Nel
    12th Amla/Gibbs

Gives us: a 3-pronged pace attack, as well as the ability to fall back on slower bowling. Also, Shaun Pollock can get things moving in the batting dept but has a cool enough temperament to guide the batting. Smith is a top batsman when on form. Prince is building a very good batting record, and he also adds the left hand batting combination to an otherwise predominantly right hand setup. All in all, a well balanced team - and many possible combinations to boot.

erm kemp at no.9 in the ODI's ?? thats a huge waste considering he barely bowls. Kemp at 6 is fine.

And amla opening in the tests??? thats a little dubious.
His technique is certainly not good enuf for an opener. His bat comes down from gully. Hes got so much talent and proven his worth time and time again in the supersport series. But he does not have a good defense. He can play attacking strokes and turn a game on its head but expose him to the new ball and hell struggle. Those brilliant shots in the second innings jst shows that he can play, but when the ball moves too much, he struggles. very similar to gibbs. My vote goes to boeta at opening. Solid defense....

    so test team:

    Boeta
Smith (until he stuffs up completely)
    prince
    Kallis
    amla
    ab
    boucher
    pollock
    nel
    botha/steyn (depending on wicket)
    ntini

Gibbs goes out till he finds form in domestic season. Smith as well should sit out but its hard to drop a captain.......

i like your team, very solid batting line-up,i would swop smith with AB in your line-up,either or just simply drop him "even if he is cpt" he is wasting a valuble possi imho.

Wow mr Expert. Gary Kirsten had anything but the perfect technique, yet his record as an opener speaks volumes. Amla can open, he has the talent. There are few super successful openers in the world with a perfect technique.

As for Kemp at number 9 - depending on the circumstances: how often have we needed a very big bat towards the end of an ODI? I'd send him in at 3 more often than not though. We need someone to do for SA what Adam Gilchrist is doing for Aus in the top order.

i suppose. Kirsten didn't have the best technique. but still i sthink Amla at no5 is great. He has got off to such a bad start in international cricket that he needs to have a bit of an easy ride from now. Otherwise hell be lost to sa cricket forever! Maybe start him off at no5 and if he does well try him at opening.... For now we have boeta who is more than capable..wouldnt u agree?

And i am an Expert , dont you forget it
