i just searched the thread and heard no mention of coldheart canyon (seem to have forgotten the name of the author but i do remember he is a gay guy - don't let this dissuade you from reading the book).
Written wonderfully, huge book but a great read, finished it in two days and i couldn't stop.
Also, let me just mention the fact that this book contains extreme sexual acts with non-humans lol i suggest you just skip those few pages as they are quite disgusuting Other than that it has a great plot - a horror and very interesting

P.S: Started on the dark tower series yesterday and it is wonderful

    Wasnt that impressed myself

Paolini's father self-published the first novel since they own a publishing company. Books have been a commercial success, but then again, so has Paris Hilton

If you're looking for something more fleshy try almost anything from the Malazan series by Steven Erikson.

Have you read some of his newer books? I recently read "the husband" by Dean Koontz, totally different to his scfi-fi stuff. A really good thriller.

I am really enjoying that series. I need to track down the next book. Book 3 I think its wastelands, Cna and such places only have book 1 and the newest ones. Been to a couple second hand shops, but no go.

Finished reading 2001: A space Odyssey and 2010 a few weeks ago. 2010 isn't a direct sequel to 2001 and the setting in 2010 follows the events in the 2001 movie and not the book. The most confusing was the jump from Saturn to Jupiter as location. Overall liked both books despite the confusion of 2010.

Finished 2061 today. The third in the series. Again it's not a direct sequel. What I like about this one is that South Africa (United Stats of South Africa) and South African characters (van der Berg) makes up a large part of the plot.

There's a great quote in chapter 11: "Afrikaans is one of the world's best languages in which to curse; even when spoken politely, it can bruise innocent bystanders".

A fun read, although based on the space operas of today the storyline is pretty timid and uneventful.

Banned from the library... because of a certain... shall we say.. toilet paper malfunction... when I was still in school.

Anyway, I prefer to buy my own books anyway. I'm a hoarder.
