Some of you in Pta / Kzn regions might be battling with intermittent data connectivity.

The guys are aware of the problem and is doing a forklift swap-out of a moerse big Cisco switch.

Will keep you posted.

Have you tried to pick one of these things up, the size of two full-height fridges!

But the saying normally is interpreted as a complete swap-out vs. just upgrading certain components.

So both apply in this case.

Cool, pretty huge. ;)

That's the thing; if you look at the Vodacom network it's looks simple on paper (ask Prometheus! ;)) but everything needs to multiply by 20 million subscribers. So everything is just so much bigger.

4me (you think of it as a web server) fills a whole floor!

VMware.com has some server virtualisation products that can reduce the space & hardware wastage ;) :).

v3g : I can only imagine how that puts a strain on things... I know its a beech alot of the times even for smaller systems...

For my own system at home (3G P4, 1G RAM) which is the best VM server to use? Run mostly Win XP, WMC & Vista with some Linux.
If you intend to run those concurrently in virtual machines, then you will need a bit more RAM, but you can easily run all those in VMware Workstation [what I use for dev] - unless you need some of the features that VMware Server [GSX] or ESX offer.

The main thing about VMware, is that it cuts down on the need for multiple boxes and dual booting of desktop PCs [as opposed to servers which wouldn't be setup to dual-boot].

I have several virtual machines running, 2 * IPCop [one per ADSL ISP account], and then some Ubuntu LAMP servers. I hope to get the E220 working with my primary IPCop virtual machine for the times when ADSL is down or unusably slow [a major intermittent problem for me lately ] :).

PS: There is a Free VMware [Workstation] Player, as well as a Free VMware Server Player, but you can also download the other VMware products [e.g. Workstation|Server etc] and try before you buy for 1 month.
