Digital Rights Management

Well... Apple has called for the Music industry to drop DRM as the apple Fiarplay system has been ruled as 'Anti-Competitive' in a few European countries. In utopia, DRM is a nice idea - but the consumer is not that stupid :-P

Bit of a pointless article. Regardless I'll say what I've said all along: DRM is the capstone on the music and movie industry's - as they exists today - grave.

It doesn't work and consumers don't want it. Adapt or die.

I wouldn't say consumer don't want it...they don't really know about it until they try to do something that DRM prohibits...then they claim ignorance.

Will I own my Nokia 6680 for life, or would I still have to buy it again if I loose it?

They (the enemy) may argue this way.

With DRM will I own the thing I purchase for life, or will I still have to buy it again if i loose it?
Huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu?
Me bets the latter.

No... you dont purchase it.. you buy the Rights to listen/watch the content. Its up to the content provider to manage how your music/movies are being used. Also, with the Apple model, you buy from iTunes for your iPod... its not playable on anything else except your ipod (or any Apple DRM system)

Thats the problem!... who controls what! it kills the 'Fairplay' clause in consumer rights.

drm might have had good intentions but it died a quiet death. Bypassing it aint so big problems and didn't make a dent in piracy at all.

Or any cd player - Apple left an analogue hole big enough to drive a truck through.
