Thread: GW and WebAfrica?

  1. #1

    Default GW and WebAfrica?

Well, Well, Managed to cap myself rather early this month, and as I can't last 20 or so days without net, got some prepaid bandwidth over from WebAfrica.
(They have absolutely excellent service, in my opinion.)

Now, the only problem I'm having is Guild Wars doesn't seem to work with it. (In the past, when on my sisters WebAfrica account, it didn't either, but worked fine on our Absa account)
It just stays on that gray client screen, with the loading bar on "connecting to ArenaNet" and going no further than 0%

Is there any trouble playing Guild Wars with WebAfrica? Or is this just me?

    UPDATE:
Decided to leave it running in the background for awhile, see if it eventually connects, and after about 15-30 minutes, it does! Even though thats a good thing to have it working.. It usually connects instantly. Any clues?

UPDATE2: Its working fine now, Yay!

Glad your problem is sorted out. Just out of interest sake, what was the problem? I also have a prepaid account with WebAfrica, and if I have to use it to play GW at some stage, I wouldn't like to have the same problem. Thanks.

    Sounds firewall or connection related.
The ports GW uses are 6112 and 80, so make sure these are open.

If 6112 doesn't work, it should go over to 80, by some or other rollover / timeout mechanism.

Otherwise, just allow the GW app to make outgoing connections on your pc firewall / adsl router, if you have any. This will allow it to do what it needs to.
What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.

I'm actually not sure at all what the problem was. After connecting atlast, it ran fine, and still is running fine. I didn't change anything either, atleast that I remember.

Problem is firewall / connection related.
The login servers are essentially auth servers which are different than the normal game servers.
