Why would a digital tv be expensive? Should be pretty much exactly the same proce as a analog tv. The only difference between the two is a reciever

What i meant is that the people that cant afford the R400 for the STB would definitely not be able to afford a Digital TV, hence expensive.

R400 for the decoder? WTH? That price is insane for what's in the box.

You wont need a digital tv if you get the R400 decoder. Your analog tv will do.
Just as your current DSTV decoder is a digital decoder and it works with your analog TV

Yeah but the problem is where are people who currently have normal SABC channels and cant afford much gonna get R400 to buy the STB?

Ja, now they have a means to enforce TV licences No licence, no reception.

****, didn't think of that... but then they cant enforce having a TV license to buy a TV as the punishment for non payment will be disconnection, like M-net...

DSTV is digital. SABC, ETV & MNet are analog

Specifically here, it is referring to Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting (DSTV is Digital Satellite)
Analog Terrestrial Broadcasting will be moved over to Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting
So this effects (of the current players) SABC and ETv
